Illini will go down on Tuesday night if Wisconsin can get some refs in there that like to give calls to the home squad like the Illini had last night. I'm complaining about it cause Iowa lost but not blaming the refs. Iowa shot themselves in the foot the whole game. They outplayed the illini. Not blaming the refs on their loss but...
Illini shot 31 FTs to Iowa's 12. :WTF: . There were so many horrible calls in the game. Illini kept going over the back on the offensive end as well. 17 offensive rebounds. I'm not blaming the refs but I think the #1 team in the nation on their home court got quite a bit of help last night. Dee Brown awarded a timeout when he was falling down, without the ball in his hand, and without ever signalling for a TO. For all i know, some fan could have yelled timeout from behind Ed Hightower and he decided to award illini for Iowa's good defense at the time.
Iowa lost the game because they turned the ball over and the few FTs they did get, they didn't make so they lost the game. One thing I do know after watching this game is the UNC is quite a bit ahead of the Illini this year as I have watched Iowa play both of them.

Unfortunately I missed the game but I can tell you (and I'm sure you know this as a Big 10 fan) that the home team in the Big 10 ALWAYS gets the calls. Without fail. That's why it's so hard to win on the road in the Big 10.

And somehow I think a Wake Forest fan might differ on your UNC vs. Illinois assessment. Ya know what I mean...

From what I gather this was Illinois' worst shooting night of the year and Brown and Williams just weren't their normal selves. If this is all you've seen of the Illini this year then it's probably not enough for a good judgment.

D2. I live 40 minutes from Champaign. I have seen every one of their games. Wake was 32-32 from the FT line in their game vs UNC. You won't lose one game if you make 32-32 from the FT line. Mccants was on the bench half that game. Iowa shut down illini. They played good defense and were blocking tons of shots from powell and augistine. All I watch are big 10 games. So yes i know what i'm talking about. I'm not even blaming the refs. Iowa could've won the game if they made one more FT. They shot 50% on the few they had. The game last night was one of the worst officiating games I've seen this year is the point i was making. 31 FTs to 12 is quite a disparity. There were a lot of no calls and a lot of cheap calls.
Iowa's trio of guards is every bit as good as the illini's.

OK. Again, I didn't see the game (managed to catch 1st half on radio after having 1st half -7.5 Illinois did their job for me), so I really can't confirm or dispute your claim other than to say I see home bias in every Big 10 game. But I have seen most of Illinois' games and 5 or 6 UNC games and I believe Illinois is a slightly better team.

But Iowa will get their shot back at Illlinois on their own court. I still say Illinois -3.5 for that game.

Iowa played well, and the Ilini didn't hit any shots. Viking is just sour grapes, because he likes to cry and blame the refs like a 6th grader when his team loses.

Answer me this, with Iowas outside shooting range, why dont they just shoot the 3-ball EVERY FREAKING time down the court?????

Instead they turn the ball over 20 times a game and throw up bad percentage shots in the lane constantly.

I JUST DONT GET IT, REALLY DONT.

Like I said up above...Iowa had their chances to win and shot themselves in the foot and I'm not blaming the refs. Just saying there were some "homer" refs out there and it was one of the worst officiated games I've seen this year. The numbers back it up too. That bail out on the timeout was just unbelievable and yes poster Illini above agreed last night on it. That was a big point in the game.

Lets not forget the Illinois guards played some pretty good defense as well...preventing Iowa from taking the 3 all game long. Horner struggles at creating his own shot of the dribble, and the Illini guards did an excellent job of keeping on both him and Haluska all night long. Haluska got open for a couple, and hit em, but that was about it.

While I really dislike people who blame refs for games (not accusing viking of doing it) I have to agree the Illini got a majority of the calls last night. Iowa had some over the back calls on them, however, the Illini seemed to get away with it all night long.

Looking forward to the rematch in Carver-Hawkeye....Go Hawks!

Iowa put up a great fight, and caught the Illini on a bad night. They'll get another shot next month. I'm not hoping for a loss, but someone needs to beat this team and take the pressure off. They were so tight and panicked in the 2nd half. Go Illini!

Best Illinois team since the mid 80's I think...

You're thinking of the 1988-89 Flying Illini! They were awesome.

Yes the late 80's...I was thinking back even further, but that run did make it all the way to the 1989 team..I remember even further back '84 I believe...Md lost in a controversial sweet 16 game to the Illini...that Illionois team was very good as well...Md led by Len Bias and Adrian Branch

I don't remember them losing to Maryland, but I was very young. They lost to Kentucky by 1 or 2 in the Elite Eight on Kentucky's home court in....I believe '84. Bruce Douglas and Glenn Blackwell, I believe, right?

Lock on IOwa last night +14.

Illy is getting killed ATS lately...I've been against em on the road. Was scared to take IOWA in this one though.

And I agree with you about the refs in the ILL/Iowa game. They were letting the ILLINI get away with a few. But it wasn't quite as bad as you think. Iowa still should have won that game. They blew it.
