Since nobody cares about the dunk contest and three point shooting contest on

all-star weekend anymore I think a one on one would contest would be good. A

player from each team would be selected and play in a single elimination tourny.

I think the players would try hard and the fans would love it. It would also be

fun to bet on. I would put McGrady the favorite at about 5-1. I've been

meaning to write to David Stern about this.

Years back, they used to have this.

It was great.

Would love to see it return.

I remember it too Fish..they use to show one match up at halftime of the CBS game of the week...I remember Paul Westphal was very good in this for some odd reason...

I would say Kobe

Yes he was, he had that left handed action that worked for him...

We would never see something like this today, players wouldn't go for it...ego's , money, too much risk involved...

Just don't bring back that guy/girl thing. That wasn't good entertainment.

I would go with Stoudamire, great dribbler, good quickness on the D side, and has good range. Shaq would win only if they let all the offensive fouls go. Kobe would look great, but a big guy would kill him by exposing him defensively. Don't forget size does matter in one on one matchups so you really would have to go with a big guy to get it done.

Too bad this didn't come up earlier. If you got him early enough, before he started showing some age, imagine a Bird-Jordan matchup. People would still be talking about that one even if it didn't count for anything but pride. Two quintessential one on one guys: size, range, defensive quickness, and just insane competitive spirit.

Perfectly said, this is exactly why it won't ever happen ........UNLESS the payoff is HUGE. It would be very difficult to come up with rules for a competition such as this though. They would have to create something similar to what myself and a group of friends had long ago when we had similar elimination contests one on one against each other. The MAIN rule, or question would be; Is there a cutoff point as to how far under a big man can post up?. For example, create a circle reasonable enough that a bigger man could use to his advantage, but it would also have to be far enough out or as someone said above, the big men such as Shaq & Tim Duncan would easily dominate the contest, and anyone that doesn't think so apparently has never played the game. A smaller opponent vs a dominant big man has to be almost perfect from the field to pull of the upset. If the rules were based in this way, with a post~up cutoff point, I would give the advantage to McGrady or Kobe, HOWEVER, I guarantee there would be some guys that would surprise everyone big time and the favorites such as Kobe, TMac, or Lebron would not win it in the end.....
