I imagine I'm going to get nailed bigtime. They are talking about 8-12 inches by my area.

I have a feeling it will be bad. Usually we know how much to expect but with this storm, the snowfall totals are all over the place. This storm has ruined my weekend plans. I came back from the store a little while ago & people are taking this storm seriously. All the poultry & chicken were gone!

I'm hoping the dish doesn't go down this weekend as I don't have cable as a backup anymore. I only use them for internet service now.

I spent 30 winters in that snowy crap. I'll take 80's in January any day.

Call me crazy, but I like the snow. It has just been too cold in the East, but sounds like the storm is going to warm things up a bit so I will be happy. I know I could get killed for saying this, but I sort of wish it snowed in Vegas at least once or twice a year.

it does. my sis lives there and she said it snowed a few weeks ago. it didn't "stick" for a long time - but it snowed and it snows there every winter. my sis says when it snows it drives their dog batty - for the (normally) green lawn is covered in snow - so the dog has no idea what to do when it goes outside to go to the bathroom

I mean real snow Winky. I grew up in your part of the world. When it was time to choose a college I went to a number of places. I went to Seattle last and they had 10 inches of snow, an enormous amount for the area. I had family there thinking "damn he is never going to come here". I was thinking it was the coolest thing in the world, my first time in falling snow. Seattle has it perfect, a couple of snow storms a year max and its gone in a day or two. What Vegas gets doesn't count, it is gone within minutes usually unless you live in the snobby part of Summerlin.

Best part is people out here where I am staying the locals don't let the weather get to them. They told me we should all go out tonight because it is going to dump tomorrow and we won't be able to leave the house. So in 5 degree weather we are out having a jolly time at two different bars. Cold? Of course, but that is no reason to stop living. My father back in Newport won't even venture to the supermarket if it is under 50 degrees.

<!--CA-->Bob Germany clears snow from a van owned by Tom Burton of Clarence, a suburb of Buffalo, N.Y., Friday. Four straight days of unprecedented weather have buried Buffalo under nearly 7 feet of snow, effectively shutting down a city known for coping with massive snowdrifts. <!--/CA-->

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><!--START COPY-->NEW YORK -- Already reeling from a Christmas week blizzard, Buffalo residents coped Friday with three feet of new snow, the second-highest one-day total in the city's 170-year history.
The city has received nearly seven feet of snow since Monday, nearly as much as it typically receives in an entire winter. Officials have declared a state of emergency, with streets made impassable, mobile home roofs caving in and at least two deaths linked to the harsh conditions.
"It looks like somebody opened up the sky and just poured out buckets of snow," said Matthew Brown, a spokesman for Buffalo mayor Anthony M. Masiello. "This is Buffalo. Snow is our specialty. But man, this is a lot."
Because of swiftly rising snowdrifts and quarter-mile visibility, authorities banned all private vehicle traffic and shut down interstate highways and the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, stranding thousands of travelers in a city where nearly everything is closed.
The record snowfall -- 82.3 inches since Monday -- was piling up as fast as it could be cleared away, and National Guard troops were on their way to help remove the snow in dump trucks.
Carroll Tartt, a 10th-grade teacher in suburban Cheektowaga, spent part of Friday afternoon shoveling his front yard.
"It's bad," Tartt said, speaking outside on a cordless phone. "There's mounds of snow as far as you can see. The trees have pretty much had it, bending under all the weight. There's nobody outside."
Forecasters began warning days ago that a huge snowstorm was headed toward western New York state.
Still, the severity of the storm caught many people off guard. Several injuries and at least two deaths have been reported. An 83-year-old man died Friday when his carport roof collapsed, and a pedestrian was killed by a truck that skidded out of control on a patch of ice.
The flurries started Monday afternoon, at first leaving just a light dusting.
"But it kept falling. And falling. And falling," Tartt said.
The next day, trees were frosted with fresh, crystalline snowflakes and streets were lined by drifts, whipped up by 20-mph winds.
By 6 a.m. Friday, 35.4 inches had fallen in 24 hours, the second-highest total in the city's history. The 83.5 inches measured in December is most ever in a single month in the area and only slightly less than the average for an entire snow season.
The blizzard comes after an uncharacteristically pleasant fall in Buffalo, notorious for its gray, grueling weather. The city didn't see a flake of snow in November, and temperatures were in the 60s in early December.
This was the ideal starter-kit for a huge storm because Buffalo winters are creatures of the "lake effect." The warmer the fall weather, the worse the winter snows.
The mild autumn kept the waters of nearby Lake Erie at 41 degrees, compared with a normal temperature of 33. This increased the rate of evaporation, and thus the amount of moisture in the air. When a fist of cold wind came pounding down from the Arctic, it suddenly turned the built-up moisture into wide bands of snow.
Until Lake Erie freezes over, usually at the end of January, the potential for massive snowfall remains. Meteorologists are predicting the snow will ease up by Sunday but could resume shortly afterward.

Maybe some don't like hot weather! I sure as hell don't & prefer the freezing & below freezing temps! The winter is my summertime.
