The guy won FIVE NFL Championships!!!

Yes, he had great players around him and a great coach, but the same can be said for JOE MONTANA and he gets 100x the accolades that STARR does.

MVP of SUPERBOWL I & II

STARR called many of his own plays also, as he was one of the smartest field generals to ever play his position.

agree. people don't mention starr because the pack did not throw the ball much. he didn't have marino stats but he has the rings...that's what counts.

Very intelligent man. Excelled not only on the field , but in business as well after his paying days.

Less than stellar as a coach however.

Bart Starr was always one of my favorite players and certainly one of the greatest of all time. What is overlooked when comparing Starr with some of the stats of todays stars is that Bart Starr almost never made any mistakes. For instance in 1966 Starr passed for over 2200 yards and while throwing only 3 interceptions all year ! Simply amazing IMO !

Fish,

Who said he was under rated? Isn't he in the HOF?

Plenty of players in the HOF. i think he meant that starr could be considered one of the top 2 or 3 QBs of all time, but instead we discuss players like montana, elway, unitas and marino.

I never saw starr or unitas play, but if you asked me the best QB i ever saw was marino. His problem was that he was surrounded by bad RBS and awful defenses.

Best you ever saw was Marino ? You got to be kidding ! He would make more mistakes in one game than Bart Starr made in a season. Marino is the most over rated QB in NFL History. A true choker in the big games !

As I stated in a Thread sometime last year, Dan Marino was the most overated superstar ever. He is not a Superstar in my opinion, a good QB, yes, but this guy threw more PICKS in big games then any Hall of Fame QB that I can remember. Plus when he did throw the picks he would look arobund for someone to blame other then himself. Those stats don't mean much, His teams were OK for him to have made it to at least the Super Bowl more then once. Way overrated. Starr was a great QB and alot better leader then Marino would ever think about being. along with todays great leaders today like Brady,Favre McNair. He wouldn't make my top 15.

Sometimes it is the QB's job to give his defense a rest. If you notice the high yard QB's teams always allow a ton of points. Marino, Moon, Elway (early) Culpepper, Trent Green are all examples of that. Why? When you score real quick or go 3 and out real quick-your defense is on the field a lot-translation they give up more points. Some of those defenses behind those guys weren't that bad-they were on the field a lot and they were always playing pass defense where the clock stops on incompletions.

Bart Starr was balanced. More run than pass and he gave his defense a standing chance.

Brady is actually the closest I have seen to Bart Starr. He plays with intelligence and is an excellent passer who makes few mistakes in the really big games.

Good job Fish !
For those that actually think that Bart Starr would not be a big star in today's game better take another look at what makes Brady the best QB in the game today !
