Everyone should know that the PUBLIC bets more money on the SUPER BOWL than any other sporting event I can think of...

And as a rule, they bet favorites and overs...

With the line on the Super Bowl bouncing between 6 1/2-7 for the past 24 hours, it has me wondering about what's going on?

Since virtually every sharp guy that I know will bet the FAVORITE early on, but wait until gameday or thereabouts to bet UNDERDOGS, I am perplexed...

While it makes perfect sense to bet the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS NOW before we see tainted 7's and possible 7 1/2 sometime before the game, it makes NO SENSE for any WISE GUY to be betting the EAGLES this early!!

But clearly someone is betting PHILLY NOW as well, rather than waiting for what certainly will end up being NEW ENGLAND a solid 7 and perhaps a 7 1/2 point FAVORITE once the PUBLIC enters the frey...

Shrink Wrap:

I've gotta give you props. I asked you who you liked to win the Superbowl back in August and you said you liked Philly. Well they are one game away.

Excellent point Ken. I am waiting it out too and will likely bet Philly +7.5 if they get there, but I am highly doubting they will. I can't see the public getting that in love with laying more than a TD. I think it will settle at 7 flat everywhere and stick there until kickoff.

Hitman,

I vaguely remember that!!!

WildBill,

Trust me, I believe you will see a 7 1/2 sometime within the next 2 weeks...

The Public will indeed lay 7 and when enough of them do , the line will go to 7 1/2 in a few places (more likely in square shops though)...

Now I do predict that if and when that happens, the 7 1/2's will be eaten up alive..

I am just hoping the Coast Resorts revert to their old form and put up the -6.5 and +7.5. Ok, I am dreaming, but I have a hard time thinking if the Pats last year weren't drawing money against an unknown and unloved Carolina team how are they going to draw money on a big number against a clearly more talented team than last years Panthers, not to mention a squad with a huge public following?

Interestingly Betfair has posted both Eagles+6.5 and Eagles+7.5 lines, providing choice for punters. So far these lines have minimal action while the game itself shows over $1.25 million wagered. Too bad you US residents can't include this as one of your outs.

Wonder how many tickets SIA is writing on the Pats now. It can't be many. They probably are just trying to prevent a run come two weeks. I suppose a 7.5 might show up there or Bodog, just having a hard time understanding why someone would bet the Pats at that price.

Bruins-Flyers, Celtics-Sixers, Patriots-Eagles..just nothing like a nice Beantown-Philly battle!

Could be a fun line to watch also, should/if one of the Philly crews and the Beantown wiseguys decide to back opposites staunchly, as it used to be amusing to watch some of the hard fought line movement p!ssing contests between group$.

The death of the open/original and larger markets, has seemingly brought about a civility, where it once seemingly had more elbowing amongst groups and their clerks/beards/runners for the numbers?

Still more money is being wagered on an average English League match left alone Premier League than on the Superbowl. Not to mention the Europe/World Cup football.

Only for this match I will give you the secret: Terrell Owens

If Ownes seems like a lock to play it will go to 6 1/2 and stay there. If Owens never shows up as a possibility then it will peak and stay at 7 1/2. Right now nobody knows and its 7 almost everywhere with -115's or -105's .

If someone happened to already spot a +7.5-110 why would a wiseguy not be wise to bet that?

take philly in everything, first to score, fisrt to fart, just eerything,
they are going to win the game,
I predict a major upset, well, the "public" is gonna wager N.E and the books
are going to make a killing this superbowl, they're going to make up for a not to good season.

I don't believe it will ever go past 7. Too many books are afraid and you will see -7 -125 or even -7 -130 before you see 7.5.
