To me it's when a team that should be a clear and prohibited favorite is only favored by a small margin if at all. Thus it looks like a sure thing, hence the trap to get you to bet big.

When you have a book who wants you to go a certain way, they bait you by having the line look very enticing.

I agree, when the Bet looks too easy. How they get the other side to cash most of the time is my question?

It's not a phenomena, it's an excuse by bettors trying to rationzalize something that they don't understand. Before the game to rationalize why a line isn't what they expected and after the game to rationalize they they lost.

It's made up. A figment of our imagination. A little like the man in the sky who watches everything we do -- the one we call god.

...when bets look easy, I cash them, like Maryland +14 last night.

I dont think 525 Wake Forest is a bad line, I just know how most people think about certain games. it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out squares. I can look at certain games and tell you what side the suckers will bet.

trust me on this game tonight the betting ratio on Wake Forest will be like 4-1. if you think its stealing jump out there and lay the 1. whenever a game looks this good you will lose way more than you will win. cant wait till Slim post his plays tonight. Wake Forest will definetely be one for sure.

It goes back to what Dante said. People have a tough time realizing the value of home court. You flip that Wake game to wake at home that line would equate to Wake -8 to -10. Doesn't look nearly as easy does it? but they are basically the same lines.

I agree 100% the line would be between 8-10. that still doesnt answer why every squirrel in the tree is going to bet Wake Forest tonight, trust me on this game mortal lock cinch 4-1 Wake ratio tonight. you can take that to the bank.

Usually a primetime event where the head cheeses, whoever they may be, will make you look at a line in disbelief, tons of money will come in on good line, but no movement. There are high rolling MF'ers behind this chit.

Wake has won 9 of 12 in this match up and the last two at Georgia Tech...this is not a trap game. Its a conference rivalry.

A trap game is when a team beats another team by 40 the first time and then the losing team is a 2 point favorite the next time they play each other. Beware!!!

Exactly.

If Maryland would have lost by 20 last night, it would have been designated as one of the famous trap games of 2005 by the whiners - and the people who bit at +14 would have been kicking themselves for being so damn stupid as to fall for it.

Of course, with Maryland having not only covered, but actually winning, the memories of this game will quickly fade from the minds of the "trap game" theorists.

Strongly disagree. The guys that rule this stuff, and I mean the TOP guys can and do easily accomplish this. We have seen clone shops get fuked by a little trap and we get it in spreads as well.
