here is the deal......
he doesnt care. he has more money than he will ever need. his life is great. he doesnt need golf anymore and he knows it.
I get the impression he is burned out on golf. he doesnt practice or try anymore, probably cause his game has gone bye bye. I dont think its the opposite where he could still play if he tried.
everyone tries to analyze the guy, its simple, hes comfortable now and golf sucks when your shots are going astray and you cant fix it.

As Mr. Smith said, he just doesn't care. He wants to live in Colorado with his new wife and ski and all that stuff that the super rich can do. Golf means nothing to him. In about five years, if his mind isn't total mush and he isn't a total washout, he'll make a valiant comeback -- maybe.
Plus, he's a complete introvert. In a way, I admire him because he is just doing what he wants to do now. If he feels like playing, he plays. If not, he could care less. It's a major waste of talent though, and that is sad. In his prime, the guy was money.

Amusing how people seem to believe that Duval's life is great and he doesn't need to be out there and......blah, blah, blah. If this is true, why then, is he out there? If things are so hunky dory in Col, why not stay home and enjoy it instead of humiliating yourself at the Bob Hope Desert Classic. I'm almost at that point of feeling sorry for the guy, but not quite there yet. He's got to be one of the most arrogant athletes in sports.

But there have been plenty of stories (including a very good one by AP Golf Writer Doug Fergueson recently and one I think that ran in a magazine last year) that explain what the situation is. They guy is more than OK financially. He just got married in the last two years or so. I think he had vertigo or something. They worked that out. He definitely suffered through some major depression after he hit the top, but that really hasn't come out.
In life, the guy is OK. On the golf course, it's another story.

he has earned over 16 million on the pga tour alone.
he has been thru bouts of vertigo and multiple injuries . his recent marriage and step fatherhood from what i have heard are the best things to ever happen to the guy.
he wants to get his game back and seeing that he has millions in the bank , it is simply because he loves to play and compete.
i for one am rooting for him.
