No, I think he's better than a lot of people thought he would be. He can still get better too if he wants to. Still has to be one of the top 3 or 4 centers in the NBA.

I agree with D2..I think he gets better every year...He needs to gain some weight for sure...I watched the whole game or at least tried to and he owns that ten foot turn around jumper..I just think he needs to beef up a bit.

Complete BUST....he just isn't a winner. If he wasn't Chinese nobody would talk about him. :smoker2:

Yao

Remember this guy is a slave of his country and is force to play all year round. Some days he looks dead. Has alot of talent just way over worked.

good point Nhoj

I compare him to the Shaqs and ewings of the league both past and present and he just does not have much ..IMHO he is a good player no doubt but not elite

he just looks soft to me. maybe he trying to place a finesse game , but i think he needs to get aggresive and start knocking people around like shaq does.

how the hell can a guy 7 foot 6 inches only average 8.5 rebounds a game.

i'm 5'10" and i bet i can get 3.5 rebounds a game.

He reminds me more of Manute Bol...he always seems to get muscled out when he goes against most of the other big men in the league.

He is no banger thats for sure.

Needs to go to the play ground to learn how to be a banger. I don't think playing in china you have to bang to much.

LMAO....your probably right, I think if you screw up in a game in China they put you in jail for a week. On a serious note I think Ming may still be a little overwhelmed by the "West" and the freedom; it seems he plays scared at times, not of other players but of Big Brother. Remember his Big Brother was alot worse than ours. I'm not even sure he can speak much Engish yet. I like him and hope he does well.

The guy was just nuts to watch Dante but it was worth it when he would shoot the outside shot. A 7-7 guy shooting from the top of the key was priceless.

In my opinion, it is too early to declare whether Yao is a bust or not. He is still very young and still learning the NBA game. He does currently have some serious shortcomings, namely he does not know how to get position yet for rebounds and at 7'6" tall, should be able to use his body to work his way inside. Further, he is often out of position defensively and not quick enough to recover. On the plus side, when given an open look he has a decent and soft touch and he shoots free throws well. If anybody can teach him position and how to play inside both offensively and defensively, believe Jeff Van Gundy is more then capable. School is still out on him, but believe he will become a solid but not spectacular NBA center over time.
