University of Iowa men's basketball Coach Steve Alford has permanently dismissed star player Pierre Pierce from the team, the athletic department announced this afternoon.

"I regret this step has become necessary, but Pierre has betrayed the trust we placed in him when he was given a second chance two years ago," Alford said in a statement.

"Pierre is an excellent basketball player who will be missed by our team, but given the circumstances I feel this is the only appropriate response."

Pierce is the subject of a police investigation in West Des Moines. In 2002, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault causing injury after being arrested on a felony sex abuse charge. Pierce red-shirted the 2002-2003 season and then returned last year.

WOW!

Unbelievable this *assclown!

Very overrated anyway, cant shoot a free throw if his life depended on it.

Maybe now Iowa will start shooting more 3 pointers with no Pierce driving to the bucket and missing.

Great defensive player though.

Very good defensive and offensive player. Terrible at the FT line. I know HS chicks that shoot better than him but everyone else in basketball sucks at the FT line these days anyhow. Can't believe kids today get 2nd chances and turn around and screw them up. Especially kids at the top of the game. Pierce leading big 10 in scoring right now at 20+ per game in league games only. Unbelievable.

Just today I was reading in the paper Alford saying that this whole thing was being blown out of proportion.

Maybe a coach doesn't have to have a HEART to have a CHANGE of heart.

Odds on where Pierce is in 3 years time:
NBA +110
Jail -105
Anywhere else +500

NBA +110 for the limit.

If Alford had any stones, he wouldn't have brought him back after the first incident. Alford instead said that Pierce was a victim in the rape case that he did, then tried to cover it up thru a on-campus religious group.

Bottom line, Iowa will be much better off without Alford there.

Oh, and Illinois will beat them by 20+ in the rematch. :dancefool

Never convinced that Iowa should have fired Tom Davis. Consistent tourney appearances with him. Now season is over for Hawks. Pierce was consistent 20 points. Maybe Haluska will step up. Tremendous athlete. Won trakc events.

Also look for Mike Henderson and Carlton Reed to step it up.

I have liked what I have seen out of Carlton Reed so far this year. Think he will turn out to be a fine player. Hopefully he has it in him to step it up and start making some plays in Pierce's absence.

Pierce has completed his NBA internship. He will be welcomed with open arms as he has proved he belongs there.

Alford will go as soon as Iowa can get out from under his contract. Donors are not writing checks, fans are not buying tickets,he obviously can't coach and he is a PRICK!

How 'bout those Football recruits!

Dumb kid couldn't wait a few months until he was in the NBA to start sexually assaulting women, because if he did he'd have gotten away with it just like Kobe.
