POKER tourney QUIZ

Tournament structure is as follows...........

BUY-IN ---- $100 + $10 entry fee gets you $1500 in chips

UNLIMITIED RE-BUYS FIRST HOUR(only if busted)------$100 gets you addititinal $1500 in chips.

NO ADD-ON

GUARNTEED $2000 in PRIZE POOL(Top 3 places).

Now the quiz........

13 players ante up the BUY-IN and entry fee($1430 total).

All players are on same playing level for the most part.

If one busts out in first 5 minutes, is it a smart strategy to re-buy?

I would say yes in terms of what you will get with what you have invested. There is still 500 more needed just to get to the minimum. So you eill have 200 invested to win 1400 ( I assume in this structure first would be 70&, second would be 20% and third 10%) So you are still getting 7-1, while your true odds are 12-1/

Also might have to think in terms of chip stacks as well, and how people are playing.

13 people would be two tables with 6 and 7 players respectively. That early, the rebuy would probably get you back in the middle of the pack. Have to assume that you pretty much doubled someone up, and he is the obvious chip leader if you did.

So you have the chip leader at your table. If it was a bad beat or a bad play by you, that also weighs into it as well. So you have not lost the change to win those chips back. Because until 3 guys decide not to rebuy, then there will be two tables.

Poker is a funny animal and you have wiegh a lt of things. I have to assume that mst guys will rebuy, especially when the emotions get to them. So if you get a few guys that go crazy and play loose that first our your prize pool might get upto 3 grand or so. That would obviously need to basically double the amount of buy in with rebuys, but not hard to do if people get crazy.
I have seen Daniel Negraneau buy in 27 times in a 1000 buy in tourney. He did win it. But he invested a hel of a lot of money to do it.

Fish- Do you play poker up there in tampa? Where do go, hard rock, dog or horse? The only reason I ask is that I think that the horse track has the best room from what I have heard. I am friends with the guys that run it and from the questions I have asked them, it is run much better. I plan on checking it out for myself in March, but I was looking for some feedback from someone who has been there already.

The HARD ROCK is an absolute joke!

20-25% they take off the top for tournaments.

Only $2 limit on live games with a horrendous rake.

Yes, the brief time that I spent in the Tampa Downs pokerroom seemed much better. Was going to enter a tourney there, but had a hard time getting or finding out what the take-out percentages were.

I will maybe get out there in the upcoming weeks and give you a more detailed report.

The casino boats out of Tampa are much better for poker........nice pot limit games on a few of them.

Fish is right, the Hard Rock is a joke. For that matter so are all the pari-mutuals (Tampa Bay Downs/St Pete Dogs) that have poker. They have no choice, it's all mandated by state law. The boats by far have the best games limit wise, they play some pot limit and you can usually find a $10-20 game or so if you like limit. The problem though is you usually have only a few hours to play. Often the worst player will get the chips in a 3 hour game, nothing hurts more then seeing the worst player at the table get all the chips, especially if he's just visiting and will never return.

(** - Scratch that on the time limit of boats, I am not positive about the new boat, haven't been out on that one. It's suppossed to have a shuttle, if anyone has been I'd be interested in what kind of poker they have and how long the games last.)


I do agree though that if you are stuck playing on land the Tampa Bay Downs room is probably the best, it's smaller but they run it very nicely IMO. I haven't been this year, but went several times last year as it's close to my house and you can place wagers while you play. Unless they changed owners this year I know the guy who runs it, has two sons that also work there.
