Hey all, (sorta) long time no post. Anyhow, I'll be celebrating my birthday this weekend and my girl and I were thinking about heading to Blackhawk or Central City, the gambling towns in Colorado.

Now the state of Colorado casino gambling is pretty sad what with the $5 blackjack games and all, but never having been to these towns, I'm at a loss for where to stay.. so many casinos in such a small town.

Can anyone who has been gambling in colorado let me know which if any of these places are decent, with the criteria being:

1. Food/Room
2. Gambling

Feel free to use this thread to discuss CO gambling in general too.

Thanks,
-FSB

I used to tear it up in Ignacio at the Ute Mountain Casino. They had single deck with 100% penatration.......backshuffling! The max bet was $5 but you could bet the table and DD and split.

It has been a few years so I don't know what the conditions are like now.

Isle of Capri or the Mountain High/Ameristar are the nicest places to stay. Most casinos in that area don't have a hotel. Sometimes it is hard to get a room, especially in winter, because they comp almost every one of them out. When the weather has the potential to be bad lots of people from even a 2 hour drive away just take the precautions and get a room.

If you want Central City, with the new highway access, there is what used to be Harveys with a hotel. Been so long since I made the one mile trek up to CC from BH I don't even know what they call that place these days, maybe someone can fill you in on the name. As for your other considerations, forget about it. Stay in Denver and just spend 4 or 5 hours up there. The food isn't that great and it doesn't have to be because almost no one eats or stays, they just get up there and scratch their gambling itch and then move on.

thanks for the response WildBill, we ended up booking a room at the Isle of Capri. It's just one night so we figure we won't get too bored up there.

Curious... in the land of $5 max bets, what does it take to get your room comped? :)
