I haven't . One of my step-daughters did, I was looking through the textbooks, looked tough to me. Algebra 2 prerequisite. She passed with C-. I think she took it for the wrong reasons, maybe thought it would be easy. She wants to be counselour/ psychiatrist sort. The texts were pristine mint condition, so she probably lacked passion for the subject.

I'd guess I'd pull about a B- if I took the class. I'm not an Ace in math, but I can get through it, but I'm old now. The relevance to sports betting would be my motivation.

I might even try a class like that. I never wanted a college degree, not my goal. I have taken college courses, mainly to meet women. I like US history, but not enough to get credentials to teach it. I would be bad as a teacher, as children annoy me ! I make a better bartender, then a teacher.

I'm nowhere now, I'm a lowlife, just bet. You sure don't get respect, only questions. This gambling thing is a trap. Even winning at it , you're a loser.

What do you tell people you do for a living ? It's like you are in the mafia , or something !

I might change things if I could go back in time.

Awaiting JJ's view !

Man, that is so true.....95% of the people I know couldn't do this successfully, yet they act like I'm strange......

I took a stats class once.....mandatory, more or less.......C- also. 8am classes are tough to attend sometimes....:drink:

I'm an actuary by qualification (bum by chosen occupation), so I've taken more courses on statistics than all other subjects combined. If you only want the applications to sports betting, you're better off just reading the few chapters on probability and doing the exercises involving gambling on your own. If you took the whole course you'd spend 80% of your time on irrelevant stuff.

Of course if your purpose is to meet chicks, well, that's another matter ... probably not a bad idea, especially if you're good at it and can help them out a bit, heh.
And just to get respect!? You've got to be kidding! You can just lie! Maybe they'll think you're a mafioso, but so what!? Those guys get a lot of respect & plenty of chicks so I don't see the problem there. I've had people think I was a spy, detective, mafioso, terrorist...it's really amusing to watch people's imagination at work. Chicks dig it if guys are secretive anyway. If there's a 1% chance that something very favorable for them is true, then they'll believe it. No point in telling the truth if lies will get more sex. If women want men to tell the truth, then they should reward the truth and punish lies. But we all know it's the other way around :hump: so it's their fault we have to lie to them!

Probability and Statistics were my best subjects at the University of Iowa........other than Coaching of Football and Coaching of Baseball.

English and writing classes were my worst, and most of you can see why. :)

A good business stats class is usually a lot easier than an in depth course that someone with a degree in math might take. The business level course is more practical and the in depth course is a lot of theory that is truly unnecessary. I've taken both.

Darryl has it right--the handful of chapters on probability are all you need to work the gambling end. No need to calculate standard deviation and that sort of stuff here.

That's right Bart. As an accounting major, I took 2 business stats courses, which were two of my favorite courses in college (both A's I believe). Althoguh I'm sure I've forgotten 90% of it. Or it is 92%?

I took a kickass stats class at U of I, was one of the classes i retained most of my knowledge from becasue it was presented so well and made some of the most practical use to regular life.

Was a tough class, but very worthwhile..

Took three courses on statistics at Hayward St.One of them was statistics and gambling. That particular class helped me more in every day life than any other.Learned about odds on BJ,CRAPS,LOTTERY,etc, etc.Mentioned to OMT,to start a thread on "value" would like to here all of yours definition of the term related to gambling. Its my opinion there only one sport that offers "value" in gambling anymore.

All math is good math. Push it on my kids. I could care less if they scrape by a C in history, biology, PE, or health, but bring me an A in math.

I took Statistics & Probability as part of a Communications degree curriculum, but it was more on a program director's angle for radio/tv (demographics, age cells, ratings analysis, etc). Very interesting, and am starting to reach back more from that class and apply it to not just gambling, but everyday life.

It was Applied Statistical Methods, here is the course description..

Statistical methods and computer applications for agricultural and consumer economics, including descriptive statistics, probability distribution, interval estimation, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, simple and multiple regression, and non-parametric methods.

Dont they have a "for dummies" book on this?

I took four stats classes because I loved Econ and still do. Needless to say I got strong grades in each. Much of the work was done on computer though and this was back in 92-94. I am sure now it is all on computer or HP calculator. Most of the classes though are a waste, doubt much of the public needs to learn about concepts such as data noise. I use stats only cause I want to, but passing Algebra is all one really needs to do most jobs, including the corporate finance work I do.
