Sporting News has learned that the Detroit Tigers have acquired right-handed reliever Kyle Farnsworth from the Chicago Cubs for three minor-leaguers.
In exchange for the veteran reliever, the Tigers will send the Cubs right-hander Roberto Novoa, who went 1-1 with a 5.57 ERA in 16 big-league appearances in 2004, infielder Scott Moore and outfielder Clarence (Bo) Flowers.

Farnsworth joins a bullpen that already includes closer Troy Percival, who signed with the team as a free agent earlier this off-season, and setup man Ugueth Urbina, giving the team multiple late-inning options.

Farnsworth appeared in 72 games last year for the Cubs, going 4-5 with a 4.73 ERA.

farnsy appeared in four save situations last year for the cubbies...he blew all four.

here are the people that cub fans can't blame in 2005:

farnsy
sosa and his corked bat
alou and his temper
steve stone and his tough love
chip caray and his gay commentary
steve bartman
the cow that started that fire 150 years ago
kilroy
the midget from poltergeist

but don't worry...they'll find someone else to blame this year.

Hopefully the prospects gotten from the Tigers were hand picked by Billy Beane to be soon shipped over to the A's for Octavio Dotel.

I like that. I know he's had some rough times but I think Dotel could do some good work back in the NL with a pitching coach like Rothschild.

I have a feeling the Cubs have a deal or two more to make.

Notice who's gone:
Sosa
Alou
Mercker
Farnsworth
Chip and Stoney

All the problem children. Except Dusty, he's still around. :lolBIG:

wooo-hooooo.....

Farnsworth has more TALENT then probably 80% of the pitchers in baseball.....However he has had that talent for many years and his has translated into less success than about 75% of the pitchers in the league.....for some reason the guy just cant get people out, even with his good stuff......

One day he could come in with bases loaded, no outs, and strike out the side, like nothing.....next 3 outings, he might not record an out......
and thats NOT an exxaggeration, i am a fan, and watch most every game, i have seen it for years......

Journey - they said the same thing about Terry Adams in Chicago.

This is me when I heard the news :dancefool

There is one more tool on this Cub team and the heat will be on - Dusty Baker.

Whoever is the closer probably depends on spring training. LaTroy Hawkins will probably be the favorite but Dempster could figure into it as will Joe Borowski if fully recovered. Either way, Dusty will as usual ride his starters hard.
