Will you all finally admit to yourselves that Illinois is the best college basketball team in America?

I already think that but after this I think Duke should be #2 ranked

That Illinois team that was losing to Michigan with 8 minutes to go could not hang with UNC. I hate UNC but no way could that undermanned Michigan team come within 15 points of UNC.

Basing Illinois on that game is like me basing my worst bowling game of the year and calling it my average and they still won by 6 (covering the 2nd half opening line I might add)

The ACC road schedule will be tough for every team no matter which team is playing. The ACC is very deep with talent and more road losses will occur. Meanwhile, Illinois will roll along without competition. The NCAA tournament will decide which team will be the National Champion. March Madness can't get here soon enough.

That may or may not be true but it doesn't really matter. How UNC might fare against Michigan in comparison to UI doesn'ttranslate into how UNC would fare against UI. Doesn't work that way. No more than you can say Illinois would beat Carolina by 31 because they beat Wake by 18 and Wake beat UNC by 13. It just doesn't work that way. IMO Illinois would match well with Carolina because they much prefer to play that uptempo game than the slowdown ball Michigan played.

Good call ted. Hope we can see that matchup in the finals. That will draw some publicity and ratings!

Illinois kicked Wake Forests ass and last i checked they are an ACC team. I would say that going into wisconson and michigan state would not be easy wins for UNC, Duke, or Wake Forest.

Illinois beat plenty of good competiton when they had it -- Gonzaga and Cincy on neutral, Wake at home, at Arkansas and GTown, plus at Wisc and at MSU. No doubt rhere are more tougher games in the ACC, doesn't mean the ACC has the single best team.

D2:

I wasn't implying that the best team is in the ACC, just stating as I had in a previous thread on the possibility that Illinois and North Carolina might meet for the National Championship could be derailed by the fact that the Tarheels still had a very difficult remaining road schedule. Example: Tonight. I have been stating that the Illini will be the highest #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and deservedly so as they have done all that has been asked of them. That being said, none of us will know until April which team is left standing as the National Champion. It may be the Illini or it may not. I agree with what you have said. It is all about match-ups and will depend on which teams are matched together that will determine who will advance through the tournament and who will go home.

Agreed OMT. A lot of teams can win the NCAA's. I guess that's why it's called March MADNESS, not March OBVIOUS.

What is different from me basing my opinion on the Michigan game as your title of "When UNC loses to Duke"? Are you not basing your opinion on UNC losing tonight. They were playing the #7 team on their home court. I agree that Illinois should be a unanimous #1 right now. I just think that UNC is the best team regardless of a loss at Wake and at Duke. Illinois did beat Wake bad but that game was on Illinois home court which is a huge advantage for Illinois. However to compare the road schedule in the Big 10 to the ACC is crazy. Michigan State and Wisconsin are tough places to play but the ACC does not have a Penn State, Northwestern, or even a Purdue, Indiana or Michigan this year. The last place team in the ACC, Clemson, has an RPI of 63. Night in and night out, the ACC is by far the toughest league.

Once again if Illinois and UNC played Saturday night on a neutral court, who would be favored?

Well I just thought because North Carolinas 2 losses werent enough that that mabye three would be enough to mabye 3 would convince people to take North Carolina down off the pedestal they have put them on.
