He might have cleared 500k after taxes on the win considering he sold off pieces of himself. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

I doubt if took much of a piece of the WSOP money home but he has made money since from his name. Unless he is a stone cold sick sports bettor he should be able stay in money lending his name to web-sites and torunaments. Rumor has it he can really play Hold-em well. Who knows.

I don't know personally but have heard the same thing from a couple of players who should know. If so it won't be the first or the last time a very "fortunate" player wins the Big Event only to give it all back to the local sharks. They said the guy before him donated a large part of his winnings either before he left town or in subsequent visits after winning the crown as well. Verkoni? I know that's not correct spelling but it's close. Either way it wouldn't surprise me at all to find Moneymaker is no longer flush from the tourney, hell I expected it to be honest. He may not be busted but you can bet he's bought a lot of lessons since the tournament. Winning something that big it's easy to get a false sense of security around the felt.

While Moneymaker has definitely gone through most, if not all of his main event winnings, his residual earnings from his victory are enormous. How long they will last, nobody knows. He should get his act together soon though, as they won't last forever.

I'm not wanting to denigrate the guy, as he seemes to have nice skills, but let's face it, I have watched the WSOP reruns in entirety three times, and Moneymaker needed and received from Heaven above, five-for-five do-or-die hands to become WSOP Champ from my recollection, and if I could lay -1.50 on Sam Farha vs. Moneymaker in money games, I'd do it nine out of every ten tries.

As for Varkonyi, the affable Doyle Brunson, of whom I've never seen on tv, nor written in print, him say a negative thing of another man, was practically chuckling in his bowout interview, after witnessing Varkonyi flash everyone at the table, and trying to adjust the ridiculious slack on that WSOP necklace..er bracelet from sliding around.

DB basically admitted with Varkonyi's win, that the sheer volume of contestants, had now made it now more a tourney of luck than skill.

Those two guys will never be a Negreanu, Baxter, Reese, Cloutier,etc..

I can't believe how anyone would know for sure how much money he or anyone else would have...unless he is flat out living under a bridge.

I make no statement of his worth, roll, or backer situations.

I merely am capping the players from what I've seen of them, and am not curious in the least, as to what and how some RXers may know of CM's bankroll.

I actually like the guy's style, and found him to be almost as endearing as Fossilman, whom I would say is my favorite WSOP winner from the out of left field category, though his skills were much more of note before his win.

I heard Moneymaker lost all his money playing online, but told his bookies it wasn't him. It was some relative that was in trouble all the time and he now wants a refund of that money..................... and he isn't paying the agents taht fronted him.

He was supposed to be hosting a tourney on a cruise out of Orlando this week and they had a SB party on-board. Whatever that means. One of our own is there.

If you guys actually believe everything you hear on the net I have a huge bridge for sale in the Brooklyn area.....

This whole thread reminds me of a bunch of old ladies chatting and spreading rumors at their local bridge game..

Off Topic, how is Vernon Maxwell unable to pay child support and broke? Seems almost impossible, unless he was hanging with Cecil Feilder..
