Giants adding much needed pop in Moises Alou, suring up the infield defense with Omar Vizquel and Mike Matheny at catcher.....and adding the mercurial Armando Benitez as the teams new closer, the Giants look primed and ready to win 100 ballgames out West....

The one thing that could slow them down is age, particularly the outfield defense with Alou, Grissom and Barry Bonds roaming the outfield its probably the teams biggest weakness...even with an aging outfield I still think the Giants are the NL team to beat...

Can the Giants get back to the World Series?

they got even older. i dont care how good they look, they are still older than any team in baseball.

its pretty embarassing. there farm system is completely depleted. how many years does bonds, grissom, alou, alou sr., vizquel, rueter, and matheny have? id say about a year tops.

Journeyman,

I would put my money on the young, talented, and improving Padres.

They have the best pitching staff in the division. Peavy may be a cy young cadidate.

Very good lineup with Loretta, Giles, Burroughs, Klesko, Nevin.

no chance for the padres mr green. im a padres fan and GM kevin towers is getting lynched daily by his inactivity and losing david wells but signing retread woody williams. thres no guarantee klesko stays and nevins days are numbered after getting in towers face more than once in public last year. owner john moores is getting heat too after promising to bring in high profile free agents if we voted to give him a new ball park. well now petco is sweet but hes increased nothing but beer prices. this club is no threat to anyone and only the dodgers should challenge the giants.plus the padres will be auditioning young guys all season with an eye toward replacing loretta and burroughes. things not as solid and promising as the public perception. ~RG

One nice thing about the Dodgers, despite still annoyed at letting Beltre go is the fact we have a deep quality minor league system now thanks to the departed Dan Evans. Now if Edwin Jackson can take that step foward. My opinion is if JD Drew, Milton Bradley and Brad Penny stay healthy for the most part then the NL West will be theirs. I can see LA winning anywhere from 82 games to 98. Potential is certainly there. Only player I worry about aside from health issues is Jeff Kent as he is moving to an extreme pitchers park and isn't any younger.
