Jason Giambi apologized for the distractions of the past year without addressing any specific steroid allegations Thursday.
"I can't get into the specifics of that because of the legal issues going on," Giambi said.
In December, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that the New York Yankees first baseman had told a federal grand jury in 2003 that he took steroids and human growth hormone.
"When I went in front of the grand jury, I told the truth," Giambi said.
He also said he had only looked at bits and pieces of the Chronicle article about his testimony and he couldn't comment on the validity of details.
The New York Daily News reported this week that Jose Canseco's forthcoming book also includes allegations of steroid use by Giambi.
Asked whether Jose Canseco is a liar, Giambi said he hadn't seen the book.

"I think it's sad, you know. I think it's delusional," Giambi said.
Giambi said that the Yankees never asked about steroids before he signed with the team and that his relationship with the team is fine.
Manager Joe Torre said Giambi has his support and that of his teammates.
"It's going to be a tough time for him because the fans are going to have some questions in their minds," Torre said.
To that end, Giambi said, he has been working out twice a day and his health is good. He said steroids did not contribute to last season's health problems, including a pituitary tumor.
"I'm here to play baseball."
