You can call me a Redsox homer, you can say that I am starting trouble,

YOU CAN SAY I SAID FIRST " CURSE OF THE A-ROD" because I did QUOTE that one FIRST

BUT.......................................................

This season with the weight of Giambi and his fat salary, and low production, steroid controversy, and the PRESSURE after last years playoff debacle.

Add in that everyone is still gunning for them, and AL teams are improving.

THEY ARE IN TROUBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I am wrong paste this post all over my AZZ and make me eat it with a spoon

You're on the money brother. Cashman could take a lesson from young Theo on how to build a team with a foundation under it.
The tables have turned on the Yanks!

Newport,

I agree that Yanks are not good as people think and I don't think the Red Sox are either. When you lose Pedro and Lowe and replace them with Clement and Wells, it is a definite downgrade imo. In AL, teams to look out for are Mariners, Angels, and White Sox. Three teams who have really improved in the offseason. All 3 have good starting pitching and solid bullpens. In NL, everyone is down on Cardinals but I think they may be better equipped than last year and that is still after losing Renteria to Boston. I read here in the St. Louis Post Dispatch that a on a defensive formula provided by Major League, Womack was ranked 24 while Grudzalenek was 2nd and at shortstop Renteria was like 12th with with Eckstein 8th which shocked me. I wouldn't put it past Jocketty to know this as he never gets beat on a deal. Cards are the favorites if they can avoid injuries with Marlins, Giants, and Braves nipping at their heels. Most improved teams or surprise teams to look for are Mets, Padres, and Reds. Best of luck.

Kojak, do you think one of the other teams can win the AL East?

I don't think you can blame the Yankees' loss on A-Rod Newport. Remember that in the three years prior to his arrival they were eliminated from the playoffs as well. The Yankees mini-dynasty crumbled during the ninth inning of Game 7 of the 2001 WS.

mickj,

They have gotten a lot of bad press but if I had to pick a surprise team in AL East it would be Baltimore. On paper they don't look like they have a chance but their starting pitching may be a surprise if people like Bedard,Cabrera,Ponson, etc pitch up to potential. Also, though I am no Sosa or Cubs fan, I will predict that Sosa will have a big time chip on his shoulder going into this season. It would not shock me to see him put this team on his back and hit 45+ homers with 125+rbis. I see him as the comeback player of the year. Orioles started playing well late ly vs Yanks and Sox struggled pretty much throughout with them. So I will go on a limb and say Orioles will be in the race for a while but it may take a couple of moves to stay in it.

As a Sox fan I'd just be happy if the Orioles beat the Yankees at least twice and stop beating my Sox all the time, that team is rough.

Looking forward to another season of debate bwtween yankees and sox fans. I am not an avid baseball guy, but the rivalry is very entertaining to read about in the forums.

All the best to both.

General I can tell you this much. Being a Boston resident now for 5 years. And by the way in my five years 3 SB titles and 1 WS title. Not bad a time at all to say the least.

Anyways I have learned a great deal about this rivalry. The YANKEES are baseball, and no one will ever take that away, or at least it will take another 100 years to find another.

The funny thing is that most Red Sox fans just got used to not winning the big games, and that was the whole story. But BOSTON locals are some of the STRONGEST baseball minded people you will find anywhere. And winning just this one WS is enought to satisfy this group for a long time. Now do not get me wrong they want to win, and win some more titles, but it is not so they keep up with the Yankees at all. The real core of this bitter rivalry comes from the YANKEES side. Meaning, the YANKEES is pretty much all NY has except for the NYGIANTS football team in the last 50 years. So it is the one cruch that all the locals no matter what their life is like they can rely on and that is the YANKEES. The YANKEES fans are more of the trouble makers in the rivalry even when they were dominating and won those world series in the 90's. I guess what I am saying is that winning is not enough for the Yankees fan, they need to win, and also step on everyones neck. You know the stereo type of the New Yorker being the mob boss. Living in the Boston area and all the New England States are within an hour of travel, and all that New England has in privacy and quality of life........that is what steams the New Yorker more than anything.....and now that Boston embarrased them last year by winning 4 straight in the Series before the series, these people are miserable.

New Yorkers in General....no pun intended, are jealous of the more aristocratic upper scale life style the Bostonian enjoys over the grueling New Yorker. This is what adds to the rivalry. It is the more privledged versus the less concept of rivalry.

I speak what I have learned in this time. There is a major difference in the people when comparing overall the two locations.

Agreed, I can only be around the typical New Yorker for so long as they are very annoying and boorish most of the time...

Especially when talking about their Yankees....

I love how they have started out and things will not get alot better with that pitching staff.....George is going to have a heart attack this year and Cashman will get his pinkslip very soon and Torre will not be back next year...

Next year is when I will really enjoy seeing what the Yankees are going to do....They are old and sliding in every position with nothing on the farm so to speak....
