I plan to handicap one league this year -- knowing with a full-time job and two kids there is no way to adequately study and chart both leagues for six months. Problem is, I can't figure out whether the AL or NL, if either, might be more prosperous. The NL figures to be tighter. Does that make it harder to handicap, or better, because it will have more reasonably lined games? Anyone?

it takes about 5 minutes to cap a baseball game with all the tools available for us out there so i dont see why u should focus just on one league

Not my experience, Bozzi. I know numbers can be crunched quickly, but I try to read loacl papers, pitching rotations, bullpen health, etc., to feel good about my work. If others have found success with less effort, I'm open to listen. I just have a hard time believing that a few numbers are enough.

my personal experience has been that the only thing you really need to focus on when capping a baseball game is starting pitching....that's what wins or loses games.....I don't focus much on hitting except maybe the last 10 games to see how a team has been hitting.....i mostly look at the pitchers L3 starts and his career record against the team he faces....i play mostly dogs--95% of my wagers.....local papers are not worth it in baseball in my opinion, you dont find out the starting lineups or anything valuable in them.

Hi guys, I have tried to cap 1 leauge for years on sides(NL); only way to go. Now I love to cap totals and they're a few ball parks that are great for overs in both leagues.

Starting in a few weeks I will be in this forum everyday...I think this up coming season will be the best in 20 years; we have some of the old greats in their last season and some of the agents wondering if their kid for the last 6 years is going to be an asset or a liability.

I think the spotlight is on John Smoltz with the Bravos, can he come out of the Pen and pitch 5 or 6 in the first month?

I feel like a kid waiting for this season..G

the opportunities will be there in both leagues to make $$..Don't limit yourself. Plus w/inter- league play your going to need to know the other league as well

Toying with the idea -- one possibility is to, say, do my own tracking, involving the statistics I consider important (baserunners per inning, pitch counts, team OPB, for instance) in one league, then do the 15-minute thing in the other. If your theory is correct, Bozz, maybe it will show in the results.

Anyway, it would be an experiment. I do appreciate your point that the most important baseball handicapping info is not in the daily paper. Then again, there usually is analysis that goes beneath the boxscore and doesn't make an ESPN highlight.

I'm still undecided.

Dude, you can't just cap one league. It's idiotic, you've got interleague play during the summer, you got players that get traded from one league to the other at various times.

That's ridiculous. Interleague is four weeks -- two at a time. No reason I can't take a break, or if I must, use the stats available, during interleague. And trades? Give me a break. How long does it take to adjust to a new player? You might as well say I have to handicap the minor leagues, too.
