Theory of Poker by Sklansky
Killer Poker by Vorhaus
Any of the volumes of Roy Cooke's articles
12 Days to Hold-em Success by Caro (or the Stud version if you prefer)

Lots of good books out there. The shelves at the Gamblers Book Shop are overflowing with them.

You don't need a book to teach you how to play poker. They all say the same thing... here's a chart of starting hands you should play, and if you catch a flop then bet some more. And don't forget to bluff sometimes too. You may learn to play "good" poker but to be truly successful you must jump right into a game. They got 1 cent/2 cent games and $1 tournaments at Stars and cheap games all over. Sit down and play, but pay attention to the other players. What they do, what hands they play in certain positions, how they react to different situations and flops. See why some players win and others don't. This is the only way you will get a feel for the game and develop a style which you are comfortable with.

Number 13,

thats the most idiotic thing i have seen in a while.....how the hell you gonna learn anything from people playing those games....most likely they know as much about poker as u, you will not learn anyting about position there and you sure as hell will see a lot of people play k-2 q-5 because one of them is a high card...is that a way to go?

read a book, pick up the basic stuff, deposit 2-3 hundred and play $20 or $30 sit and gos.....now there you can learn at least a little bit.
