What league did you see? The junior leagues make about minimum wages and have to go to high school until they are 18. The AHL has lots of guys making around 300k a year because they are deemed to be near-NHL quality and will be up in the big league soon. Or because they started the year in the NHL and got demoted. The ECHL has a $10,000 a week salary cap I think, so you do the math with about 20 players on the roster. The booster clubs often have charity events to help the players out even, especially the new kids who make about $1500/month.
