Newport:

I've had a couple of root canals. Dentist prescribe nothing more then two Advil, four times a day. Each Advil tablet is 200 mg of Ibubrofen (i.e. low level Motrin). Taking 400 mg of Advil four times a day should be more then sufficient. Only problem is if your stomach is sensitive, it might become slightly irritated. Take less if the pain isn't too severe. I'd try that before Vicodin.

Here are the steps.....

1. Fill the prescription
2. Call the dentist and ask the receptionist, if you left the script there and that you can not find it and ask for another
3. Fill second prescription at different pharmacy
4. Complain to dentist about lingering pain and get a third prescription
5. Send me 10 of the Vics for helping you out.

Linz-I will have to disagree about Vicodin making you sleep. a 750mg and a large coffee in the morning and I can promise you will accomplish more in that day than you would ever dream.

:lolBIG: The girl at walmart practically made me show her the tooth. The reason I got the OTM, was because Well lets just say that this was a tooth prepped by this same dentist for a root canal over a year ago, and I never went back. Hey he cleaned out the root, filled the hole with some temporary filling.......and lets say the over under until infection set in again, was 16 months.

Hurt like a bastard last night.....So I call the office this morning and I say the following.

Ok, I will take the paddle machine when I come in, and you all can make fun of me being the worst dental patient ever

BUT MY MOUTH IS KILLING ME< AND I HAVE PLIERS IN MY HANDS

So, the prescription was written before I arrived, and he gave me an office supply of one tablet.......and I said You da MAN DOC !!!!!!!!!!!

I am not in favor of legalizing many drugs, but making Vicodin OTC would solve many of this countries problems.

Why should you "deal" with the pain, when you dont have to? It is not like the Doctor is gonna shake your hand and say "congrats, you are one tough SOB".

For pain with no high and very little side effects OMT is right - Motrin is what most doctors or dentists prescribe. Motrin is non addictive but will work if you give it time. Narually being non-addictive it also not very popular with patients who like a buzz from their pain killers.

Motrin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug available in both prescription and nonprescription forms. Prescription Motrin is used in adults for relief of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, treatment of menstrual pain, and relief of mild to moderate pain. In children aged 6 months and older it can be given to reduce fever and relieve mild to moderate pain. It is also used to relieve the symptoms of juvenile arthritis. Motrin IB tablets, caplets, and gelcaps; Children's Motrin Suspension; and Advil tablets and caplets are available without a prescription. Check the packages for uses, dosage, and other information on these products.
