What is your take on this years race?

Personally, my take is that it is the most overrated race of the season.......being a restrictor race and all.

The positives are its rich history and it is the marking of the new Nascar season.

im not a big nascar fan but this is the biggest race of the year based on media attention, therefore the most coveted by the drivers. so much history in this great american race from the terrific to the tragic.......and its in my back yard. charlotte is now considered the home of nascar but the daytona 500 will always live on as the one race to win.

It seems a bit silly that NASCAR plays the "super bowl" on opening day, but it IS the official beginning of the season. Im looking forward to seeing Greg Biffle win the 2005 Daytona 500 tomorrow.

I haven't seen this many hillybillies get so excited about things going around in circles since the pig auction.

A bit boring and certainly exciting too. If one is not a race fan at all, I can see where it would be boring. Makes a big difference not only if the sport, but also the pre-Madison Avenue cultural and historic aspects of the sport appeal to you or not.

I grew up as a kid looking forward to the Indy 500 [may it RIP] the way I do now about Daytona.

BTW, since the Craftman Series Trucks started racing at Daytona, purely for action and excitement those Friday nighters are in a certain sense getting to be "the greatest spectacle in racing". I suggest if you don't like racing but are willing to give it a 2 hour shot watch that one race next year. Hell almost no college hoops on Friday anyway.

But anybody who bets HEAVILY on anything at Daytona or for that matter Talladega also, does have a major problem.

It's slang for an overly-anal hick that points out typos on posting forums.

Two questions for diehard NASCAR fans.

Why did they start using restrictor plates for the bigger tracks??

How come top drivers can drop down and race in the Bush Series?? I noticed Stewert and Jr. did that today.

I wouldn't watch a NASCAR race if it was out in my backyard. This is the dumbest waste of time I have ever witnessed. Redneck sport, enough said.

The plates were put in place to slow the cars down to improve safety.

Anyone can race in any series. If me and you had the money and could build the car, we could race also.

The wrecks can be pretty exciting. Overall not boring but the restrictor plates kind of suck because no one can pass anyone else without a line of cars pushing him along. Take Martin Truex Jr at +4909 in today's race. :103631605
