He is by far the funniest sportswriter around.

Even as an Eagles fan, I enjoyed reading his Super Bowl diary daily.

i kno a few red sox and patriot fans that think his writings are gospel.

the whole key to bill is he just writes like hes telling the story to a few guys in person. he writes with a lot of self honesty.

he lost me during the sox title run with all the lame shawshank redemption refrences. he couldnt have covered the series any worse. go back to writing about page 2 football billy. the manly man have a coors and tell you the BS running through my head crap was too much for funk.

after a while you get sick of "so i was eating a dipped nacho 6th to last one and had the runs then trot hit a homerun it made me feel like the time indiana jones saw that guy get killed by a propeller just as i saw that i had the looseys and my pants got soiled so i called my dad" nonsense.

theres a fine line between conveying self reality and absolute writing magic like i bring you

In case you are too lazy, here is the funniest portion of the article, in my opinon.

Q: You made a comment in your Ramblings about letting Isiah Thomas run different things into the ground. Well, we're living through just that right now. It's called "The Life of George W. Bush". Running multiple oil companies into the ground? No problem. Trading Sammy Sosa when he ran the Texas Rangers? No problem. Running the U.S. economy into the ground? No problem. And I didn't even touch the whole Iraq thing. Quite a resume he has -- much more impressive than Isiah, don't you think?
-- Kevin B., Phoenix

SG: I'm not sure I see the comparison. For one thing, Isiah doesn't owe much of his career to his father; people keep giving him chances over and over again, for no reason at all, really. But more important, I think he would have one-upped Dubya as president by being able to hunt down Bin Laden ... it's just that Isiah would have immediately offered him a six-year, $70 million contract and screwed up America's salary cap for the next five years.

Simmons is the funniest guy in America right now. Yes, I am a Boston fan so a lot of what he writes--particularly about the Red Sox--hits home with me. Find his archive, pay the ESPNInsider money if you have to, but find his breakdown of who would win a game between Hickory High from "Hoosiers" and Carver High from "The White Shadow" (boxscore included). Best sports coverage of an event that never happened ever. I'm serious...do it right now.

I have his article that was in ESPN magazine after the Sox won the Series framed in my office. Classic. His Vegas columns are priceless as well. His Friday football gambling columns were entertaining and informative.

I give his columns to my assistant--who knows, literally, nothing about sports--gets his columns when I'm done with them and she loves them. Friday, she was all over the comparison between "The O.C" and "90210".
