What current college basketball coach played on the same college team as the great Dr. J, aka Julius Erving ?

This college coach was a freshman guard while the good doctor was a senior..

The interesting fact with Dr. J and UMASS was he only played two varsity seasons 1970, 71 (52 games). He was great at UMASS but had an abbreviated career as a Minuteman.
  • One of only six players in NCAA history to average more than 20 points and 20 rebounds per game
  • All-America and All-Yankee Conference (1970, 1971)
  • Holds or shares 14 UMass records, including career
(20.2 rpg) and seasonal (20.9 rpg, 1970) rebounding averages, career (38.4) and seasonal (38.8, 1970) minutes per game, career (26.3 ppg) and seasonal (26.9 ppg, 1971) scoring averages
  • Finished career with 1,370 points, best in school history; still ranks among top-15 all-time scorers
  • Finished his career with 1,049 rebounds (527 in 1970, 522 in 1971)-best in school history, second all-time
  • Scored a career-high 37 points twice, against New Hampshire (March 2, 1970) and Fordham (Jan. 21, 1970)
  • Scored 36 points against Syracuse (Feb. 22, 1971)
  • Scored 29 points in the first half against Boston University (Jan. 28, 1970)
  • Holds top four single-game rebounding marks, including 32 vs. Syracuse (Feb. 22, 1971) and 30 against St. Michael's
    (Dec. 29, 1970)
  • Connected on 19 free throws against New Hampshire (March 2, 1970)
  • Enshrined in UMass Hall of Fame (1980)

For some reason Erving is somewhat slighted now when most people talk about the games greatest players....The Doctor was the original!

And looking back at his last NBA AllStar game last night on ESPN classic was very enjoyable...

The NBA was much more balanced when Erving's Sixers were battling LA, BOS, HOU, MIL , and Portland...

That Sixers late 70's early 80's era team of Erving, Moses Malone, Bobby Jones, Henry Bibby, Andrew Toney, Doug Collins, George McGinnis, and Darryl Dawkins should have won more than one ring...Moses finally put them over the hump...

Dr J was so graceful and made his dunks look so ridiculously easy, yet when the modern day dunkers were asked to immitate the dunks of his a few years ago in the NBA Dunk Contest, most couldn't come close...
