In light of some recent developments, I'd really appreciate to hear what some of you posters think about our banning policies...

While we are big believers in FREE SPEECH, there are times when some posters are so disrespectful towards others in here, that in order to protect the quality of our forum, moderators and board room members, collectively must make hard decisions as to whether or not to ban someone...

NO ONE likes doing that and we try and only use it as a last resport. And as you know, in most cases, especially when someone may be drunk, we just give them the night off (or two)...

However, I'd like to hear if you think we are too easy, too hard, or about right...

We are Always striving to improve and thanks in advance for your input...

It really DOES matter...

I have mixed feeling on "banning" to be honest with you.Although there are obviously times & circumstances when something MUST be done about an abusive poster..............It just seems kind of "childish" when you think about it.I know that probably sounds ridiculous and as if Im contradicting myself, but as I said.......mixed feelings......

Perhaps consider what is often used in the work place. First, a warning. If no improvement, then a reprimand. If still no improvement, a suspension. And finally, if there is still no improvement, banning. But, once banned, it should be irrevocable as every attempt had been made prior to banning. Like in the real world, once fired, normally you're not rehired.

While we're on it, why not making someone's first "step" , or "warning" when it comes to banishment, is try sealing them off, or give them access only to the Rubber Room for a while. Then, if that doesn't help, go through with the complete banning........

i would make a banned poster write " i'm sorry ( insert every other posters handle here ) .

make them write that 3 times each and then they can come back.

i think the mods do a great job keepin it real around here .

language and ethnic slurs are the only thing that bother me . the "N" word should be a lifetime ban.

i don't like the bannings. maybe i'd have a different take if i was a mod but, i don't see a reason to ban someone. unless the guy is threatening people or something. but, just because they annoy and irritate? seems too much.

take a guy like panther...i don't like him for a lot of reasons but i don't think he should be banned...unless he threatens people.

I believe he did threaten the life of another poster not far back. Viking611 I think.

But he was pushed into that outrage.........
That's something very important when taking this subject into consideration. At times a poster has a right to vent his frustrations if provoked by others........

both good bannings. even though i like noreaga he and i know its not about wil its not about who did what its that he knows he crossed the line and he has to zip an email over to say hes sorry. noreaga just know it wasnt wils sole choice to ban you, you left the staff no choice as far as i can tell.

JJ on the other hand left a spot on my toilet after he supposedly cleaned it and im pissed so dont expect me to drop a good word for him when he offered to put that "special new jersy shine" on it i wasnt impressed though he vigorously tried to ensure me that his "special pimp coat" from " '84 those glory days" would make it look good, i really just dont want to deal with him. im sure gold can scrub a good toliet, but why does mine gotta have a spot. yo phuck JJ.

If one threatens harm to another here they should be banned for life. Irritating is what will keep this forum on its toes. You want to see irritating, go to the sports forum after a poster posts a loss, on a guarantee or lock or whatever and you'll see irratating. These guys who only bash losing threads should be banned from the sports picks forum. We only try to help people out and get more negative remarks than good. If we have to take that s hit then posters in the main forum should be able to handle some criticisim IMO.

True...both posters were being ******** in that thread. But if anything ever deserved banning, it would be what panther wrote in that thread.

I think it's important to not take this board too seriously. Banning should be used only for extreme case and some as of late seem to be unwarranted.

Ken,
I'm glad you brought this topic up. I think we can all agree that Dante and Judge Wapner should both immediately be banned indefinately.

The Rubber Room is wide open and all flaming is allowed. Is it a bad thing to ask these posters who can't take an internet insult to go there and fight if they feel the need, so that the majority who consider it childish do not have to deal with it?

After my post yesterday...

It's all good fellas. Any poster who is banned is welcome to email me, maybe do a phone call to get on same page and likely get un-banned. We will work with you if you will work with us.

Thanks for some good feedback.
<!-- / message -->

I received (1) email and that poster is back posting.

The feedback is definately appreciated as SHRINK said and it does matter.

when i see a thread that you know is gonna get ugly instead of banning the person or person's

just lock the thread, then send out emails to let them know if it happens again you are gone.

unless you guys enjoy babysitting ???

i very rarely see a thread locked unless its a contest

its not a RIGHT TO POST HERE, it a privilage ????:monsters-

i guess what im really saying is that the RX needs to continue to ban as they see fit. when you guys ban a poster, you know the RX has a big heart so youre basically putting the ball in their court and giving them a chance to say theyre sorry wont happen again.

no one gets banned and says i sent 20 emails to general sorry as hell in every one of them but still cant get back on.

it seems to happen to the frequent poster guys the most i really dont see whats so hard about sending an email that says im sorry i was a knucklehead that day i had a lot on my mind i got backdoored i lost a middle at the buzzer or whatever. its not like it gets posted for everyone to see.

Banning as a form of quieting a dissenting opinion always looks very, very bad. As far as the drunken tirades, simply deleting\editing usually does the trick-if it doesn't, an overnight or 24 hour toss usually gets the point across.

Most people seem to respond well to warnings, but it's probably harder to get the message across privately without a private message system (for whatever reason, this seems to work better than a "public warning").

Then there are the lost causes who get banned, and rebanned--there's no hope for those few.
