Well, the much anticipated Barry Bonds spring training press confrence took place yesterday and #25 did not dissapoint. Over the last few years we've had a lot of heated debates over Barry here at the RX. like his treatment of the fans and a myriad of many other Bonds related threads such as steriods, wearing "plate armor" and a seemingly disrespectful approach to the game and it's current record holders.

I know I have probably 100 or so of my 7500 posts bad mouthing this guy, but I just wanted to say Barry talked at that press confrence yesterday like you were sitting at a bar and having a beer with him. Gems like "every year Dodger stadium is the greatest show, they say 'Barry Sucks' louder than anyone. You gotta have some serious talent for 53 ,000 people to say 'you suck' that loudly." let the viewer really know more about the real Barry, something that had been missing for years. Comments about Canseco "I'm better than Jose, I've always been better than Jose. If you want to go make money, go ahead. But I don't see any of your records" had me cracking up and nodding in approval.

He also made a lot of what appeared to be honest comments regarding the media ("theyre all liars" he said), Babe Ruth, race and some other things that made me say ok Bonds isnt the nicest guy youll ever meet but at least he let us know who he is and that he really does have at least some care for the fans and just about any other aspect of the game outside of actually being on the diamond.

I can certainly say a lot more for Barry than the now media and fan dog-housed A-Rod who needs to get his nails done and consult a publicist every time he speaks with the media just so he can tell us "I'm the only one who runs stairs, most other people are taking their kids to school". Barry showed a lot of sides of him, that really let you know who he is and what he's about.

Hopefully baseball fans will get to see the press confrence clip on Espn News or Sportscenter at some point, although you can read an article on it (http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/8219331/1) it wont give you the same effect.

Lastly, I want to add he looks about 10 pounds lighter, so dont expect 55+ home runs as something automatic this time around, but the -2 runs over Sosa being offered at olympic is like stealing in this bettor's eyes.

Good luck this season Barry.

To me a guy who is 1000% predjudiced and don't let his phony interview fool any, should get what he deserves. What I hate about him is when the team travels, BARRY BONDS travels seperate from the team. Who the hell is he, definitely NOT a team player in any aspect. LOOK AT HIM. He isn't puffy for no other reason than steroids. Hes not like that from eating. Well yes maybe from eating steroids. He needs to be monitored every so often. If he is watched and still can hit 60 or more homeruns then I'll be a believer. But why till these past seasons has he been hitting them out like clockwork and have you noticed its been the past couple seasons hes puffed up,lol. A total coincidence, yeah right. Can't wait to see what happens this year, he'll probably fake a season ending injury not to look like an assh ole only hitting 30 dinggers.

Do you really think he looked 10 lbs lighter? I thought he looked heavier than ever.

Journey,
He looked all swelled up. All his steroids are doing to him still don't make him sound like a man, lol. He will Lie and Lie and Lie bout steroids cause he knows it would kill Willie Mays to hear that his boy needed drugs to make him a better hitter. Would've love to see Hank Aaron on steroids or "THEBABE" but he would've died much earlier then cause he was drunk most of the time and still hit all those homeruns.

his face seemed slimmer and he didnt look like ronnie coleman as much, but i guess i cant form a strong opinion until i see him on the field.

and jim i know he juices and he is lying about that i will still bad mouth him as far as that goes, but it was good to see him open his mouth for a change and acknowlege the fact hes got fans out there even though im not one of them. if youre going to cheat at least dont be a total jerk in the process

You gotta love Barry. What did people expect, that Barry would break down and cry? He should go out and buy 2 golden retrievers and name one CLEAR and the other CREAM and bring em to his next press conference. The replay of the conference is getting more airtime than Janets left breast. Bonds has a 30-30 season this year without the steroids

Old Barry - always so quick to play the race card. It's not a black/white issue, it's an a$$hole issue. The sports world didn't seem to have trouble embracing Michael Jordan, Barry Sanders, Sammy Sosa (for a while). Likewise the sports world had no problem villifying Bill Laimbeer, Roger Clemens, John Rocker, Bill ROmanowski, etc. Barry is an a$$ and still doesn't get it. I hope he blows out a knee in spring training.

He would have kicked Jeff Kent's overrated, coattail riding a$$! I can't wait until he breaks Baby Ruth's BS homerun record, that should definitely ruffle some feathers when it happens. Ruth never had to hit off a Pedro Martinez, Satchel Paige, Bob Gibson or the likes of "those" players so his record means $hit to me.

Poker King Jim,
With this steroid issue taking main stage, mark my words , Barry Bonds will sit more often this year with a fake injury just to cover his arse not having to ask questions why he hit only 30 dinggers this year, which isn't shabby but nowhere near his steroid strength run of 70. Hes got a problem and can't accept the consequences.

Go2Guy,
How old are you?? Did you ever see the balls back then when Ruth played, lol??? My grandfather had a baseball from 1915 when he was in the Philadelphia Athletics farm System that I found in the garage in the early 70's. As a young kid I had no idea it was that old so a friend and I used to go to the little league field and hit fly balls to each other with it. Well enough hitting really destryed the ball , so I ended up taking the ball apart. In the center of the ball was nothing but sand. In todays balls in the middle you'll find a super ball type ball. Plus the bats they use today will make the ball go even further. Back then it was so much tougher to hit the ball far. Today you see broken bat home runs. YOU WOULDN'T EVEN SEE A BALL GO OUT OF THE INFIELD WITH A BROKEN BAT BACK THEM. Totally no comparison from that moron BONDS to Ruth or even Aaron. He couldn't shine their shoes.

the whole thing is he wouldnt have done any of that if his dad hadnt of told him "all the greats have books about them, its there to back up their legacy" or something to the effect. it pressured Bonds who very much respects his father, to speak.

Bonds's father says jump, Barry says 'how high?'. Just like when Barry's father deemed Boston as a 'racist town', Barry tottaly subscribed to the notion no ifs ands or buts without input of his own personal opinions. if only he went to the mall in Copley or any other casual spot in his free time he would see there are quite a few of blacks and puerto ricans trying to make their way in beantown.
