MARADONA OWES BACK TAXES It is being widely reported in Italy that Argentina legend Diego Maradona has been ordered to pay 30million euros (£20.8million) to Italy's tax authorities. The Italian Supreme Court in Rome turned down an appeal made by the 1986 World Cup-winning captain, who was found guilty of tax evasion by a Naples tax commission in November 2001. Maradona will have to pay the back taxes plus interest dating from his five-year spell at Napoli in the 1980s. Lawyers for the 44-year-old, who has suffered a series of health scares in recent years, had argued that the player had never been notified by the Italian tax authorities until it was too late. According to the supreme court, the former Barcelona star had at least twice been given the fiscal files by hand in 1994 and 1998.:smoker2: <!--QuoteEnd-->
