I have quit 3 times for over a year but now smoke a pack a day. I was able to quit at times of change. I was in between jobs once with 2 weeks off and did it. I also did it after I got my wisdom teeth out and stayed home for 3 days. Good Luck to you!

I am using the help of Commit Lozenges. They do help a lot. I have found the first six days to be easier than previous times....but when the craving comes it is unbearable. Pop a lozenge in...and I'm cool in 15 minutes. But it only takes once and it's all over. That's what sucks the most.

Man Sherman that sucks that you quit for 9 months but went back. Wifey ruined it for you. I am still kicking myself for giving in after I had quit for 5 weeks a couple years ago.

I don't want to die from something as stupid as inhaling exhaust.

I've been using those and nicorette for the past 3 years,I have either a commit lozenge or niccorette gum in my mouth 90% of the day. I don't give a fxck it ain't smokin.
What I do with the commit is buy the 4 mg. and get your self a cheap pill cutter and cut them in half. This helps more. The reason is you carry the pill cutter around like you use to carry a cigarette lighter around....So? you say...Well cigarette smoking mind is like a junkies. a big part of the addiction is the process.

Try the nicorette gum also it has improved dramatically it comes coated like chickletts use to and taste much more like real gum.

wait til your 62 and get pneumonia and have it so bad you are hospitalized because you can breath.

you get a feeling like your going to die.

I quit in 1991. Cold turkey. You just have to accept that there is going to be a few days of physical crappiness and say, "Too bad - I'm doing it."

The psychological stuff goes on for more than a few days but I put up with it. It's hard at the time but, believe me, it can be gotten through. It's all a distant memory for me now.

Glad I did it.

I have quit a for long periods of times the last few years, but always seem to go back. My girl friend bought me the patch system (I've never tried an aid, always gone cold turkey) and it is sitting on my computer as I write this. My quit day is the day after the NCAA Tourney championship game. I have no desire to gut out these games over the next month without being able to light up a smoke.

Anyone use the patch before? What are your experiences.

THanks,
AK

Apollo --- The patch was no help for me. Problem for me was when you get a bad craving, you need to pop something in your mouth right then. Partly phsychological, and partly because you need that nicotine. The patch just slowly delivers it into your system, you wouldn't even know it is doing anything.

Groucho -- How long was it before the bad cravings and phsychological parts of it were over for you? Basically...how long was it before you felt like a non-smoker?

Patriot -- Holy Chit....3 years? At least your not smoking, but are you ever gonna give them up? I will give the gum a try.

Patch is ok but, if your just starting to quit I would use the gum because of the oral involvment...you watch when there is a tense moment in a game or something you'll catch your self chewing a 100 mph...you know those times when you want to lite up.

There is also a nicotine nasal spray i've tried with some success you can get from your doctor.

Khole...Don I mus from the radio program Imus in the morning been chewing nicotine gum for about 15 years.
I know i just changed my addiction but its still better than inhaling that filth into your body.....nobody liked smoking more than I did either.

Yes, cold turkey on my third attempt in 1980 after 15 years of smoking. I put the amount of money I spent on cigarettes in a separate bank account each week and after a year bought something nice I really wanted.

Physical cravings were worst the first 3 weeks then psychological cravings for six months. Used to light up in my dreams take one puff then throw it away saying I don't smoke.
