Hey Mr. Smith,

Thats not to surprising, The Canes have an awsome team. Today the Braves play Georgia Tech; in years past it has always been with in 4-6 run diff but I don't think the Bravos have ever lost.

That has to be a great feeling and future story for those players on the Miami team.

what is really embarrassing is some guy from Miami had an inside the park homer! and Miami led 7-0 at one point.

Unreal..........You would never see something like this in a contest between an NCAA Football team vs an NFL team. Show's what a huge difference there is in the 2 sports of baseball & football. Talent level/difference between college football & pro football probably goes from A to Z. Talent level/difference between college baseball & pro baseball is something like A to G ........

I think the top NCAA team could win between 20 and 30 games if they played a full season of MLB. College players drafted in the first couple of rounds are expected to be in the minors for a year at most.

Not surprising at all...I played collegiate baseball in Florida for 2 years in the late 80s in the toughest Division II conference in the nation (played against Tino Martinez, who had 3 HRs in a DH against us at our field with a short RF porch)...He played for Tampa...

This happens all the time with these Florida schools, they are LOADED...The Community Colleges and Junior Colleges down there can beat Miami on occasion and our Division II school has beaten Miami in the past...

Like someone said in this thread, the talent level in baseball in these top-notch Florida schools and the Majors is about A-to-G...Take a Miami team with their ace going against ANY Big-League team at the beginning of spring training, and anyone can win...

The Big-leaguers have only been in camp just over a week...When I would go back to school after Christmas break on January 8th, we were practicing DAILY the next week, scrimmaging by the end of January, and starting our 60-game schedule in February...

So these collegiate boys are actually more "game-ready" then these big-leaguers...

So with all of this in mind, when it comes to Miami beating the Marlins today, it's like I said:

No surprise...

bill,

college teams don't have the pitching depth to win that many games. sure their top two starters and 1-2 top relievers could hold their own, but thats about it.

I don't know how many pro teams Miami plays a year, but the paper said this was their first win since 1982 when they beat Baltimore 7-6.

That doesn't necessarily mean that at all.

The pitcher in baseball, much like the goalie in hockey, can often be the great equalizer when a weaker team overall plays a stronger team.

In basketball and football, you don't really have a key position player that can dictate the outcome of a game like a pitcher can (not even the quarterback).

Florida Southern, another team from my old Division II Sunshine conference...Tampa & FLA Southern have always been the powers in that conference...

As a general rule of thumb, when I played down there anyway, if you were a starter for either Tampa or Florida Southern, you got drafted or at least signed as a free agent...

I understand Halifax, just trying to say that the talent gap between Pro & College Football is much larger than the talent gap in Pro & College baseball.

I disagree tho, that the top NCAA team could win 20-to-30 games in the Big Leagues...

If you combine Miami, FSU and Florida, and let them swing aluminum while the rest of the MLB teams swing wood, then maybe they could win 20-to-30...

NO WAY could any NCAA team win even 15 swinging wood...

A HUGE transition for collegiate players that generally makes or breaks you...Plus, EVERY collegiate team, even the top teams have weak spots, and while the top teams have MANY players getting drafted, MANY of those getting drafted don't go ANYWHERE in the minors because they cannot handle swinging wood...

good post brewers7. Going to run my son over and catch a Longhorn game as soon as it warms up a little. College baseball is great in person.
