The clerks say they cannot buy from the store they work. Why not? What advantage do they have?

Thanks

I would think the reason, they scared they might steal from them.

I think its the same thing if I worked for you in a sportsbook, would you let me bet you. over the years I"ve seen quite a few that would let you bet them while you worked for them. I might be wrong, but thats my reason.

scratch tickets though its the exact same all over town. plus the state keeps 50% of the money before any prize distribution, its a horrible game (but makes a good gift way to spend that extra few dollars at store etc)

casino employees cant play at their casino either. but i see no reason why i cant let an off the clock employee buy lotto at my store. i dont see any difference if they go right up the street and do the same thing

I saw a clerk hit a 500$ bingo game from the store he was working in after som guy bought 10 tickets and got nothing and he was BRAGGING to customers that he just bought it while working...so it must be your state

Actually, it's a very LARGE advantage for a store clerk who works at a store which sells lottery tickets. They can track how many tickets have been bought and if, or how many winners or losers there were. Works great for the $10 & $20 scratch offs as I have a girl at a local store who will let me know every time I stop in if several of those $10 or $20 have been bought in a row and not hit. Gives you MUCH better odds......

this may be why....

if I am working there, i could scratch a ticket and lose (down $1 lets say) scratch another and lose (down $2) scracth another and lose (down $3) now scratch another and hit for $5 and call it a day and put $4 in the drawer.....i could do this all day everday.....

many players stay there and scratch the itch.....in fact many places i have seen, especially in Massachusetts, the store will have an area just for that where people can sit down and relax and scratch away....

As Sherman just mentioned, the large percentage of them stay right there and scratch. And many more of them scratch as soon as they get in their vehicle. If they win, they then usually come right back in. If they don't return, more than likely they are losers. Not sure what the stores are like in all of your areas, but I know there are 2 stores around here where I see many of the same people always there scratching & scratching. As a matter of fact, there's this one Spanish lady that is the worst! What really ticks her off is sometimes I wil be with a buddy during his work hours (He's an Electrical Superintendent for a large outfit, runs his own at same time, always on the go) and we will watch & stall for a few minutes, with our things in line, and kind of keep an eye on her as she does it right at the counter. When she scratches 4-5 of the $10-$20 tickets and doesn't hit, we will be at the cashier and ask for the next ticket of the same game, LOL. Buddy hit $200 about 2 weeks ago like this. She gets Soooooo pissed! LOL!

ya scratch tickets are huge around here. the guy in the apartment downstairs routinely spends his whole weeks pay on them.

they annoy the clerks. they bark at the clerks for losing tickets. they walk back and forth car to counter or counter to designated area several times in just a few minutes.

i could go to most any store near me there will usually be 1 or 2 people there scratching their life away

Unless things have changed in LV, casino employees can play at their casino. Maybe not BJ, and table games. I've seen dealers and others play slots on breaks. Some casinos allow their poker dealers to play poker while games are short ( Mirage for one). Then they deal later, after that they may be playing again.

in minnesota we have scratch offs but we also have pulltabs - which are basically just paper slots, people lose a ton of money in the bars and its highly addictive. We call it cardboard cocaine!

I don't think that would work for long. You'd run out of tickets to scratch pretty quick. You could very easily be $1,000 in the hole in an hour or two on your graveyard shift, even catching a $1,000 winner to bail you out would fail, the store can't cash it, you have to go to lottery office.
