Came to my mind just today that i have a few rookie cards from a while ago when i got into football seriously. Well maybe not seriously but enugh to collect enugh players from every team in the league.. that was 7-8 years ago. I only have 2 rookie cards that are maybe worth a few bucks. Those are prolly the best rookies i have.

Payton Manning "Damage Inc." 1998
Payton Manning Regualr Fleer In Tennesee uniform
Randy Moss "CAUGHT in the draft"
Randy Moss regular Fleer card in Marshal uniform

Anyone else used to collect cards? And if so what is the oldest rookie card you got?

Have a ton!

Get you valuable cards graded by a good grading service.

PSA is a good choice.

More and more grading companies coming along now. As Fish said, PSA is one of the most respected, but I think Beckett has passed them them just a little as they are just a tad more difficult in getting better grades.........

nowadays, the 50's-early 90's rookie cards sell for crap. the only thing most of the new collectors care about are the GU's and auto's as seen by the fact that marino rookies are only going for like $35 on eBay. While the cream of the crop of the new era of cards, the 2001 SP Authentic Mike Vick GU jersey and auto sells for $1600. I expect a retro resurgence in the future but not anytime soon. Right now the only cards collectors care about are the rookie GU auto's

guys, i hate to burst your bubble, but please remember, something is only as valuable as someone will pay you for it, so those beckett pricings are not really valid.....

Very true Sherm, but beckett acts as a guideline or at least a starting point in determining where to begin. Most "Hot" players do go for close to book value, such as Lebron James right now for example.........

very few players are hot right now though. most cards sell for 25%-35% percent of book value on average. the only ones that sell for bv consistently are the very high priced ones (01 Vick SP Authentic, 35 Chicle Nagurski, 52 Topps Mantle, etc). I am currently selling off 600 autograph/jersey cards on eBay valued at $10,000 at beckett and if i get $4,000 for them ill be very pleased.

I remember back in 1989 when Pro Set & Score revolutionized the industry and turned it around with their football card release. Pro Set cards were more beautiful than we had ever seen before, and Score became a hit because they didn't mass produce their product.(For back then that is) That year actually put me back into collecting as I had stopped in 1985. Continued seriously up until around 1998-1999 until the hobby crashed again around or just before those years. Have still maintained some interest, but only in autographed & game~worn/memorabilia cards that come directly out of packs.......
