When I was starting out I did, even now I would if a bet that was good enough came along and the market was big enough. But you have to have a HUGE edge to play 20%. Certainly not enough in any of the big sports no matter how far off you think the line is. Their are props and secondary markets that can offer plays in the 70% to 80% range that may justify it. I would need 90% I think as I don't take losing well.

bet the afternoon game - and won it - so the plane fare is taken care of (less than $100)
bet a 3-teamer in MLB and win it (maybe the ONLY time i have ever done so)
but the real reason i flew to vegas was to bet that weekend's Seattle/Denver Japan Bowl NFLX game
denver was around -1.5 and i loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooved denver
so i make, what was then, the largest bet i had ever made in my life on the broncos - on some stupid NFLX game. after i made the bet they actually moved the line 1/2 point in denver's way which mad me feel kinda good
saturday the game is played - never see it - for i am at the a's/angels game in anaheim with a friend.
denver is UP 10-0 LATE. seattle gets a TD and then recovers the on-side kick. on 4th down seattle completes a pass about 1 yard past the 1st down marker - but for some reason (maybe the refs ALSO had denver) they spot the ball about 1/2 yard SHORT of a 1st down and denver gets the ball and runs out the clock, wins 10-7 and i won my bet - one i probably was lucky to cover.
