The contract that sent Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees from the Boston Red Sox in 1919 and started what became known as the "Curse of the Bambino" will be auctioned at Sotheby's in June.
The five page contract which sent The Babe to New York for $100,000 in cash is signed by then Red Sox owner Harry Frazee and Yankees owner Jacob Rupert; it is expected to bring more than $500,000 at auction. The contract was bought in 1993 for $99,000 by Rhode Island philanthropist Alan Feinstein at auction.
Feinstein tried to sell the document on Ebay last November with bids topping $1 Million, however it was pulled because the bids could not be verified. The highest verified bid was $477,000 but Feinstein thought it could bring more.
The proceeds will be used to fund an anti-hunger drive and to help the homeless, says Feinsttein.
