Shrink,
I went to a small school in Alabama for a year in 1989. About 2 miles from our campus was South Alabama.
They got into the tourney on the strength of two very good senior guards. In the opening round, they knocked off Alabama in a huge upset on a buzzer beater 3 pointer ( were down by 2 before the shot) after the ball got loose near the baseline and was kicked out to an open player who released just before the buzzer.
They still show this shot routinely on TV when they want to show big upsets and march madness type crazy buzzer beater endings. And they show the South Alabama coach going berserk running onto the court after the shot.
In the next round, I was routing hard for S. Alabama. They faced Michigan. They fought them tooth and nail for 40 minutes, though they had almost no inside presence and were facing a dominant power conference team with big guys to spare. S. Alabama had a good ( but very undersized 6"9 or so center) and nothing else inside. He fought like hell inside on offense and defense but had no help.
Michigan had Terry Mills and Glen Rice and a couple other NBA players I forget. Michigan won by 9 91-82 after pulling away very, very late, it was close the whole way. This was in the second round, Michigan went on to win the whole thing.
I know what its like to route for the little guy. Having Dahi in there to help inside is vital against Michigan State.
