With opening day a few weeks way lets start a daily season win total for each team, and for those that wish to give a scouting report feel free to add any comments, first team up to the plate, the defending NL Champion St.Louis Cardinals, how many games will the defending champions have?

Predict their season record (162 gms)

The Cardinals had a remarkable regular season in 2004, piling up 105 wins, the organization’s most since 1944. But getting swept in four games in the World Series by the Boston Red Sox removed some of the luster and left management with some explaining to do. General manager Walt Jocketty focused his offseason work on finding a No. 1 anchor for a starting pitching staff that turned soft during the postseason. The Cardinals made some impressive additions, such as former Oakland A’s lefthander Mark Mulder, but there were a number of subtractions from their pennant-winning lineup as well. The 2005 edition will feature a revamped middle infield, a new look at the top of the batting order and a slightly altered bullpen. But the core still includes Albert Pujols, Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds and Larry Walker, which ain’t all bad. If the pitching falls into place as it did last season, the Cardinals once again have a chance to be playing in October.

I like your prediction Jman. I'll go with back to back 100. Think 98 but predicting 100.

Considering the Cards were below .500 after 31 games last year it was quite impressive for them to reach 105 wins. If Mulder can return to old form the Cards will will 100.

Mulder has averaged 18 wins a year the past 4 with Oakland, you would think he would get more support over here, Mulder always seems to break down at some point each year, I don't think of Mulder as a true Ace...but still he's very capable of winning 20 and is an upgrade over any pitcher the Cardinals have had as their #1 starter in quite some time.

I read where Mulder is like 54-3 in games where he gets atleast 4 runs in support!! Watch out with the Bigger Red Machine in St Louis. Guy might win 33 games this year. 33-0. Same number as prior and wood would each win if they were healthy according to many!

I would like to see that stat...54-3 with 4 runs or more? Oakland may as well just pack it in and move, what a sad franchise...

Somehow this once proud team that has NEVER been supported by its fans, (REMEMBER 1979 THEY DREW LIKE 350,000 FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON!) still has put together some of the best dynasty's in baseball over the past 30 years...Its just sick to lose all these cornerstone players who were still peaking...

Giambi (cough cough)
Tejada
Hudson
Mulder

Zito (next)

Mulder's ERA in 15 games after the all-star break last year was a robust 6.13. Damaged goods?

Not sure Oakland made the wrong move unloading him. They may know something.

Mark Mulder’s career winning percentage is .659 (81–42), which is better than that of fellow lefthander Randy Johnson.

Not many would guess that!

I'm sorry...i was wrong on the ##s....

Here's the mission for the Cardinals' hitters: Give Mulder four runs, and prepare to celebrate a win. Mulder is 65-4 in his career when his team scores four or more runs in a game.
WOW!!! Imagine the runs his birds will put up!!!

I wonder if his velocity is completely back to where it was, what's the preseason buzz on Mulder?
