I now think McGriff is a first ballot Hall of Famer, even if he does not get the 7 homers to reach 500. We need to reward the people who did not take steriods, in this era of cheaters. A real strong message would be sent if they elected McGriff and left out McGuire.

I thought the same thing a few months ago, but what if McGriff would have taken steriods like many others in his era. You could say with confidence that 600 homers would have been a given, then everyone would be putting him in the hall. He took a stand, and did not take them. I promise you Mcguire would not have 493 homers had he not been on steriods.

Now that you mention it, I don't believe McGriff took steroids either. He also happens to be one of the classy, non-hot-dog type of guys that I like. His play has been top level for a long time. He has won home run titles. 500 career home runs has always been the magic level. That's where he's at.

Yeah, I buy the argument. McGriff in the Hall of Fame. Steroid-heads, no.

the "crime dog" was one of the most consistent players in the game during his playing prime.

There is no way you can tell if someone takes them or not just from the way they look. I know some of biggest guys who have never done them and some little guys who have.

One key way to tell is check their body weight in rookie year and then compare that to thier weight when they retire. FM stayed within 10 pounds the whole time. Have you ever seen a Bonds or McGuire rookie card?

I have a friend who does a cycle like clockwork and his body weight does not fluctuate more than 10-15 pounds ever.

Yes, but what was his weight before he took his first steriod? I bet it was a lot less then it is today.

its statements like 5team's that are the reason MLB is on a "clean it up and move on policy"

when does it stop? we can disect every great player from 1980 on up, we'd be here forever.

The question that begs an answer in my mind is how many home runs a juiced Duane Kuiper whould have hit?

last years tally (this steroid thing may help his cause) I personally think he is (JIM RICE) an ass-clown,

Player Votes Pct.
Eddie Murray 423 85.3%
Gary Carter 387 78.0%
Bruce Sutter 266 53.6%
Jim Rice 259 52.2%

Jim Rice was a better player...an ass as well but he was a real ballplayer....hit for a very nice average, big RBI guy, he played when 30 bombs was damn good...Rice should be in as well as Mattingly

Mattingly retired prematurely similar to Puckett and very similar statistically, yet Puckett got in....Kirby did win a couple WS though...
