I believe it truly has for several reasons...

It appears that most States have at least one team in it to root for. There feels to be more electricity. The Collegiate atmosphere is second to none. The tournament lasts for a month. Everyone I know but me fills out brackets and overall, I LOVE it even more than SB....

Absolutely! It lasts a month, people don't have to bet and watch one game only! You fill a bracket out and it keps you invoved for 4 weeks, as long as your bracket doesn't get busted! Money totalling the 4 months blows the super bowl out of the water. Its nice to see many cities involved early rather than just 2 teams in the Super bowl. These are kids we are rooting for not millionaire players!

It has been for many years the biggest sports "festival" shall we call it. The Super Bowl will never be passed for a single event, but when you get three weeks of action involving teams from over 30 states it has to be bigger. Thing is as the field gets smaller, the interest levels wane a bit. The Final Four certainly gets decent ratings, but nothing spectacular. Because its all day long with so many schools, the first round probably gets more total viewers than the championship game. Inverse of the NFL playoffs where the first round gets probably a third of the viewers that the SB does.

Although not a huge hoops fan, I think so just for the timeframe involved, people attending country wide, many arenas, and betting over the tourney has to be bigger than what is layed on the bowl.
