The odds you got are irrelavent. It is the comparitive price that matters.
If you buy a pair of shoes for $10, you only got a steal if they cost $20 elsewhere - regardless of how "good" they are.
Similarly, if you could have taken the Yanks at 5-1 at Pinny, you didn't get a steal - but if they are 2-1 at Pinny, you did get a steal.
FYI: The Yanks are +138 at Pinny ..... so ....

I use to do that with Horseracing, say they have an even money horse in the race I would give him the field and I would take 2-1. I won alot of money doing that.
They are great odds - the only problem with this sort of bet is getting the person to pay up.
Years ago a guy i used to bet with a so called "friend" of mine approx $100 bets at an average of 3/1 on horses with no problems. He paid up - I paid up.
One day we got chatting about soccer and Man United were well clear in the premiership. I said Arsenal are still not out of it and anything could happen - they were 33/1 at the time at the bookmakers. He offered me 100/1 arsenal for $40 which i took. Never saw the guy again after arsenal won the premiership.
An expensive lesson learnt but one you will all learn if you continue betting with "friends" like this.

A great bet without question. There is often no better out than the local homer, who is just dying to bet their team, or against a team they despise. They'll win 3 out of 10 but those 3 they win give them the bragging rights and enough chest pounding to help them forget the other 7.
