Mine was early this year. A fighter I had bet on was ahead 9 rounds to 2. ALl he had to do was stand up until the final bell to win, which was only 1 more round. He had shown no real signs of tiredness, it looked like an easy win....or so I thought  My fighter got clipped behind the ear and went down. I initially didn't really think he was that hurt but he was. Instead of moving away when he got up, he traded with the other guy and got stopped with 50 seconds left. It cost me $3500. I can usually handle a loss but this 1 got under my skin and I made a BIGGGGGG bet on basketball and lost over 8k more. Needless to say it don't get much worse than that. I was looking over my record on the year tonight and was having flashbacks :lolBIG: when I saw those losses. Regardless, my record on the year is 29-13 and I am not up nearly as much as I should be because of that 1 lapse in judgement and losing my head. Anyone else have any horror stories?

valdosta,

You certainly are not alone, as I am sure virtually EVERY gamber has done something similar along the way. I know I did, too...

After WINNING over 10k in sports betting during a College Football Season over 20 years ago, I got GREEDY during the Bowl Games. I was a 200-500 bettor at the time, but after a few losses, I started doubling up on some BOWL games...

To make a long story short, I lost back the entire 10k that it had taken all year to win in 2 weeks...

I had spent the money I won and could not pay the bookmaker...

After receiving a lot of threatening phone calls, I told my parents what had happened....

My Mom flew from NY to Atlanta where I was living, pawned an expensive piece of jewelery in order to pay my debt.

I lived in a 2 story Condo on the second floor and on the way to the pawn shop, my mother fell down the steps and hurt herself badly...

To this day, I can never forget the pain and agony I put her through and what she had done for me. She did this behind my Dad's back as well...

Since then, nothing of the sort has happened to me nor will it again...

Fishhead,

With all due respect, what an an arrogant response...

Suggesting that leaving SIN CITY was your most UNDISCIPLINED gambling stunt is mind boggling... :think2:

EVERY WISE GUY and PROFESSIONAL gambler was a novice and a "square" at one time, including BW...

I would love to hear what one of your REAL screw ups in gambling was...

Mine was taking the timberwolves on a HUGE ML like -500 2 yrs ago for my entire account balance ...I think it was like $1100 as I was on a 6 game winning streak thinking I could pick up another 200 easy and LOST it all as they lost by 1 when garrnet missed a 6 footer in the lane for the WIN...that hit me hard

never did that again

I did a similar thing as The Shrink....and its well documented here...back in the summer of 2002 I won all season long, the whole baseball season , from March Madness right into early Sept....

I was up a pretty nice chunk of change, I had stayed very conservative all throughout my hot streak, then I had ONE BAD WEEK and unraveled like hardball that got ran over by a lawn mower !!!! To make a long story short I ended up chasing until all my winnings for the entire spring and summer were gone! In about 10 days! LOL

It took me TWO years to recover and I will never do that again...having to think about that for two years was probably the best thing that ever happened to me in regards to money management.....

There are hundreds, so very hard to pick a defining one, but will go with the most memerable one and the one I think about everyday to this day after 23 years.

It was the winter of 1981 in Iowa and the IOWA football team had just clinched a berth in the ROSE BOWL to meet Washington.

My $2500 academic LOAN had just arrived a few weeks earlier so KYHAWK and myself spent a whopping $300 for a bus ride to the game, tickets to the big game, beer on the bus, Rose Bowl parade tickets, free hotel rooms which included one night in Vegas and free tickets to see Siegfried and Roy who virtually an unknown act at the time..........ALL THIS FOR $300. Hard to believe to this day.

Well, Iowa was -3 point favorite over the Huskies and I loved IOWA tremendously, but unfortuately it was strictly 99% HEART based.

Kyhawk and myself had did pretty will on a couple bowl games when we arrived in Vegas............one a remarkable win when LOU HOLTZ of Arkansas took a saftty with under a miniute to go to give us a remarkable win. I remember I had 300 or 500 on it.

Well, the morning the bus was leaving Vegas, I had not yet bet ONE penny on Iowa. Kyhawk and I were sitting on the bus at the FRONTIER and the passengers were loading. All of a sudden I told Kyhawk that I had to bet this game.

I got off the bus and sprinted down to the STARDUST and bet $1650 on Iowa in what was a TOTALLY 99% heart bet.

Needless to say, Iowa lost the game by 28 points and it was a long bus ride back to Iowa City. I drank a case of warm budweiser on the way home to ease the pain.

When we arrived back in Iowa City, my car was COMPLETLEY covered in snow......only one inch of the ateanna was showing. Took me literally one week to uncover my car.

Lesson served early on in life.........NEVER wager with your heart.

That following year, I made numerous trips to Vegas with my other college loans and made some more stupid bets..........5 team teaser card plays stand out enormously. Had a few good runs but had no chance in the long run the way I was betting...........teaser cards, straight bets without shopping, etc., etc.,

I remember one time about 9 months after this Rose Bowl debacle, another friend and me flew to Vegas and we loved the SPURS game UNDER.............thIs is funny............I wagered the limit ($300) at least three times and they moved the number and immediately another person(wiseguy) would bet the OVER. We went back and forth like I said three times..............obviously I was taking a BAD number. We lost the game by a landslide as the ICEMAN George Gervin went off for like 53 points! The ironic thing is, placed these wagers at the CASTAWAYS, where 3 years later I would have my first sportsbook job. LOL I guess this bet qualifies as being MR. SQUARE. LOL

For the record, this trully was the BIGGEST and WORST gamble of my career.

As are a few of my other gambling stunts pulled with women.

Have plenty of witnesses that can attest to this.

Winning at sportsbetting, video poker, and slots is relatively EASY compared to winning with women.

Plenty of bad chasing stories when I lived in Vegas; most recent, and probably most undisciplined was in December.

I had a bad week with my local, and was about $400 short of what I owed. I figured the best thing to do was to play Liverpool @ home vs. Portsmouth -200 to win. And believe me, I am nowhere near an English soccer expert! Needless to say they were up 1-0 until the 91st minute and their goalie pulled a huge blunder allowing Portsmouth to equalize, and leaving me up sh*t's creek.

Mine was this saturday when I played Wake on the Money line. Never do that. I think being in Vegas for a week and the drinking made me feel invincible. I'd won on Coll hoops all 5 days leading up to Sat. This was a real bad play and I paid for it

Dante,

You are usually very level headed so I'd love to hear one of your blunders....
