Depends on what book.

Some books will call you sharp if you simply win.

BETONSPORTS would be an example

Cincy I would agree with that!

How do the bigger books...Pinnacle, BetCris determine sharps?

A few things:

If a line on a game that you bet on always moves in your favor, then you might be a sharp...

If you never take a bad number, then you might be a sharp...

If you consistently come out ahead, then you might be a sharp...

Good post. Of course if you meet the criteria for #1 and #2 on your list then it would very difficult not to achieve #3. And vice versa.

Good info guys. Thanks. Was always curious about this. You hear about it but I never really understood how these kinds of people were identified.

Many of the books use profiling software that will tell them if you are getting the best of the number. Just like in BJ, they have the right to ask you to leave if they feel they will not make money off of you, and you pose a threat.

I always felt that being a "sharp" player was the best excuse a book could come up with to not to pay winnings.

Just about no gambler can always get the best number. I am good at getting good numbers and have tons of opportunities for scalps throughout each year but now and then #'s move against me as well. Morales-Pacquiao last Saturday is a good example. Morales should not have been the underdog. IMO getting him at +120 was a steal. However closer to fight time the damn number went up to +170. I was a little pissd but just could not understand that line move, made no sense to me. Anyways, I am just saying nobody can pick the line move every time. Not even someone who knows as much about boxing as myself (which is saying a lot, I see fights from all over the world).

A lot of ways...

Winning

beating line moves

betting obscure sports/ props, halves, quarters

career winner from book in question

more dogs, some on ML

parlay/ tease when advantageous

using free halves, bonuses, avoiding fees

betting at said book when they offer the best line, esp. a very large bet on the off-line

Real books don't care about this stuff !

You guys left out 1 important Red Flag - MIDDLING GAMES

Books are VERY AFRAID of someone who will hit a game hard on the overnight number and then come back after a 2-3 point line move on the other side looking for the "middle"

Top books don't care about middlers. Bet overnight at Pinny, come back bet the other side 3 points different, they won't care !

Most middle at different books, but I'm sure many do both ends at Pinny, on wait and see middles. Naturally real-time middles are at different books.

What AMAZE me is that MANY books CANT and CANT and CANT understand the difference between a "LUCKY RUN" that EVERYONE can make and a "GENUINE WINNING RUN" made by $$$ bettors.

Chop, Is Betonsports so bad? Never play with a Betonsports umbrella book ( many advertise at OSGA ), i always heard they are a giant financially but always see a bad rating at SBR. Do you mean that they use the same Betus business model? ( if you win we will say that you are a wise guy so we wil not pay you )?

Thanks

a "sharp" is the guy that consistantly gets down a "limit bet" 15 minutes before a major injury is announced.

Sometimes it will take some books longer than other books to realize they found a sharp that was beating them and beating the line consistenly. A middler will race the originator in trying to get the number first so he then can come back and bet the back side. top books never consider middlers SHARP. I seen this one guy go on along streak betting baseball and he was a cold turkey. I use to tell this bookie all the time dont worry the cream will come to the top, he blew all the money back plus in like a month. Sharp guys are defintely someone you need to focus on 7-days a week. The whole key is the book to know who are the true SHARPS. alot of books deal with some guys forever and never realize they are sharp simply because they have so many customers. I love to track a BEARD down, I play dumb with them, because I never want them to know I know. never let a player know how sharp you are, you only can hurt yourself.

Delsol. alot of players have gotten stiffed because the book found out they were SHARP. alot of truth what you are saying.
