Guys, this is my first published piece. I started off easy as I want to start building some momentum before I get into juice manipulation with asymmetrical straddles (thanks for letting me use the term, Parlaythis) and stuff of the sort.

This article is meant to help recreational and small bettors and I would like to get some feedback form the RX educated crowd. It might be a long read, but I tried to keep it simple.

If you have a minute, would you please read this stuff and give me some feedback, I will enormously appreciate it.

Thanks, here goes it:

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 11, 2005 -- When you bet online, your ultimate intention is to kick the man’s ass. You are all about the money and that’s exactly how it should be. We know it, you know it and the man knows it. And you shouldn’t think for one second that your bookie will feel sorry for you when your wife screams at you from the top of her beautiful –amazingly healthy- lungs, when she finds out that you have lost your mortgage payment on the Saturday morning game. “C’mon now honey, it was a lock…” Right! Keep your chin up champ, we got good news.

I used to be the joy of my bookie; heck, I probably was one of the 3 guys at the top of his Christmas VIP list… but as much as I used to love getting a big bottle of Crown Royal Special Reserve for the holiday seasons, they suddenly stopped coming when I realized that I could follow 5 easy steps to increase my winning percentage. So I did, and I only realized how good I had been doing, when Fat Tony paid me good-bye and invited me to not play with him anymore… I then realized success in sports betting comes after hard work and I started putting it in.

Throughout time, I have talked to legendary bookmakers who are firmly convinced that nobody, absolutely nobody can beat the odds in the long run when betting on sports. But in this time and day, we cannot deny there are sharp players who have definitely learned to beat the juice and who have become successful sports bettors. “Sports-betting is all about getting as much valuable information as you can and you need to get it before everybody else” says M.F. Spankaroo – name has been changed to protect his identity-, “but it doesn’t matter if you have access to exceptional information on the games, if you have no discipline when betting you will never overcome the juice.”

So, how exactly do you overcome the juice? ‘Juice’ is the commission charged by the bookmaker for writing your bets. It usually is 10 cents on the dollar and you need to have a winning percentage greater than 52.37% to overcome it and break even. While in theory you will have at least a 50% winning percentage if you simply flip a coin, it requires a lot of discipline to achieve such a winning percentage.

As much as I would like to give you the actual picks to make it all easy for you, I am as sharp as a marble. But don’t laugh just yet; even a marble can become a bullet if it has enough momentum. These are the 5 simple steps that you can follow to start adding momentum to your betting:

Step 1: Bet Safe – You might have the run of your life and make tens of thousands of dollars over a lucky weekend, but it does you no good if you’re playing with a scam sportsbook that will only pay you the day pigs fly. If you want to play online and make sure you will get paid, then you need to be very selective when it comes to funding an offshore sportsbook account. (Edited – promotional material here). That’s right, bring the bacon home baby!

Step 2: Bet Smart – Why would you lay 4.5 points on your team, if you can only lay 4? Why would you pay more commission if you can get 30-50% discount prices playing at reduced juice? Why would you have to settle for whatever odds your one sportsbook wants to shove down your throat, if you can shop for the absolutely best price in the market? The answer is simple: you don’t have to.

It’s highly recommendable that you spread out your betting bankroll among different outfits and make sure you only play at the absolutely most advantageous prices and odds. You need to start comparing odds and prices … (edited – promotional material here)

Step 3: Bet Flat – One of the absolutely most important aspects of acquiring a betting discipline is to start betting flat. This means you need to stop increasing the amount of your bets trying to make up for your early losses in the day. This is called ‘chasing’ and it will kill your bankroll faster than any other mistake you might make.

From this day on, you need to stop betting emotionally and start betting rationally. It’s actually very simple. All you need to do is create a ‘unit’. From this day forward, all your bets will be for the same exact amount, regardless of how you feel about the game. That ‘unit’ should represent an amount of money no bigger than 1-2% of your total betting bankroll.

For example: if you count with $2500 to bet with, this is your bankroll and your unit should be $50 max. It’s crucial that you make it a self-imposed rule for you never to bet over your ‘unit’, no matter what happens. This will help you manage your betting assets in an extremely effective way and it will help you relate to your own betting patterns in a much clearer fashion.

Step 4: Bet Straight – This means you will never place a wager on a betting event involving men’s figure skating… And no, it’s not O.K. to watch Richard Simmons on the tube. No fruity betting here…

In all seriousness, this term refers to only making straight wagers. As much as we like to bet on 8 team parlay cards, the pay-off odds are never true odds… even if they’re advertised as such. And if you think picking one winner is hard… try picking 8. In the ongoing battle to overcome the ‘juice’, parlay cards, teasers and other gimmick bets are your enemies.

And finally, we come to one of the most time consuming and exhaustive tasks a successful online bettor will have to conduct:

Step 5: Keep record of all your bets – doing so will allow you to go back on your betting logs and it will help you identify successful wagering patterns. It will also help you find your weak spots and the numbers will throw interesting stats back at you. This is the only real way to know how successful your betting is over a determined period of time… (edited – promotional material here)

This is it champ, you’re now armed to make the man’s life miserable. These 5 simple steps will put some money in your pocket and they will help you to level the field in the sports-betting arena. In the end, a man needs some shackles to buy his own scotch…

Cheers.

Excellent feedback, HTRC, thank you...

I'm working on a basic scheme explaining the advantage of reduced juice over a cash bonus. Do you think I should do 'Methods of Funding Your Offshore Betting Account and Associated Costs' first?

How would they bet with no funds. Square one is how, why, what and where. An entire chapter could be written for step #1. G/L with the project, sounds like a noble cause.

Very good writing Walk.

Every new gambler should copy and put next to their PC or somewhere that they will be reminded often. Must have the discipline though. No discipline and greed on top will nulify most of the material you wrote.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the feedback, O.F... I'll take yours and HTRC's advice, will post the other piece when I have it.

Thanks again! :103631605

General;

Thanks for the compliments. I agree this is pretty much basic info, but it amazes me what some 'action bettors' will do when chasing their loses and betting with no control at all. If we help one guy, it'll be worth it.

Blue;

You perv, you're probably thinking about a doll, bro... not a teddy bear! :hump: :howdy:

Excellent read Will...

I use to seek out games that were on TV, which was very stupid, maybe adding a word to the wise about that?

Other notes:

Don't bet your home town teams...

Have a monthly allowance, once it's gone yer done for that month...

Thanks for the compliments, Shrink. Thanks to the feedabck from posters in this thread, I'm already working on the 2nd piece. Will post it later to get some opinions on that as well.

it was well done except for the 4th step, which i think was just too heavy on the ellipses/side comments trying to show a sense of humour.

Would like to touch this up and do some editing and publish this article in a football publication. Do you have a problem with this? Could we use your name?

Thanks for the vouch Ken. It needs some work...but has some good points. Only about a half million people this fall would see it. Need his permission to dress it up and and use his name though.
