I'm curious about the 1-5 unit system. I assume a unit is 1 or 2% for most. Do people here really bet 5-10% of their bankroll on one play so often? It's kinda sick to see someone at 49% ATS down 78 units, in a month! I see others just default to the 5 unit play. Is this a "win the most $ the fastest" contest?

I'm not looking to stir the pot here. It just doesn't make sense to me to have half of your hypothetical bankroll in play every night on 5 or 6 plays. Am I off base?

The 1-5 unit system is simply for indicating stronger plays. Also a unit is equated to $100 simply for convenience.

Your assumption that a unit is 1 or 2% of bankroll is unwarranted. Only losers or extremely good handicappers bet 5-10% of bankroll on a single play. Personally my 5 unit bet would be less than 2% of bankroll.

The forum is not a contest but a place to maintain a tracked record.

"It just doesn't make sense to me to have half of your hypothetical bankroll in play every night on 5 or 6 plays." I agree.
