Bernard Kind and Ernie Grunfeld?

King was a legendary player who came back from a hoorrible knee injury in the NBA after a couple year layoff...the guy was awesome and unstoppable!

His brother Albert went to Maryland and never lived up to the greatness that was projected , still had a decent NBA career....

Grunfeld did go pro and plyed about 10 years , mainly for Milwaukee and the Knicks, he was just a fringe to mediocre NBA player...KING was an NBA Legend

King did wreck is knee , but after a good two years of rehabilitation (in seclusion) he came back to star for Washington, and even made the NBA all-star team...

tickey burden was the greatest shooter i ever saw he went to univ of utah but had been and would be in big trouble armed roobbery etc so i don't think he had much time in pro if any.

Of course I am aware of UCLA but I was a young kid....Myers, Wilkes, Alcinder, Walton later KIKI...I do recall the Notre Dame upset that ended the 78 game streak, Shumate, Dantley (I think)

Yes I just looked up his very brief career...wasn't sure what happened all I saw was a couple years and one with the Virginia Squires of the ABA..

Do you recall SKIP WISE? Baltimore Legend, came out of college after ONE YR and signed with an ABA team and then the league folded? Wise was supposedly the best ever out of Balto....ended up in jail.:icon_conf

I remember the ball being bounced around in the lane a few shots and that was it...Notre Dame became the giant killers...

Notre Dame had some great teams...I recall one game I was at ,Maryland vs Notre Dame when the IRISH were ranked number one @ Md on Super Bowl sunday 1980,,,, Notre Dame had Kelly Tripucka, Tracy Jackson, and Orlando Woolridge....Md stunned them on a last second shot and foul on the play to win by one...I was right under the winning basket, we stormed the floor, it was one of my favorite sports memories...:toast:

Indeed Lefty did...lefty always blew the big game by a bucket...so many great teams we had that came up one shot short...the ACC was incredible back then (still is, but now everyone thats decent advances)

Back in the day Md and NC STate had some classic battles as well...

Lucas, McMillan and Elmore vs David Thompson and Towe, Burleson some of the greatest battles in league history...Md always came up short though:icon_conf

I use to go to all the Maryland home games:suomi:

I recall Maryland playing Indiana around 1980 and Indiana waxed us by 30! And Maryland was probably favored and one of the teams everyone thought would have a great chance of going far in that tourney...

Md had Albert King and Buck Williams, Ernie Graham, Greg Manning...Indiana, Tolbert and Landon Turner, and Thomas ( I think was a freshman)

Md never advanced past the final 8 back in that era...mainly because they only took the ACC Tourney Champion....

One example Md was ranked #3 in the country and lost to eventual 1974 champ NC State 103-100 in triple OT but did not get to go to the Tournament because they only TOOK ONE TEAM! can you imagine that now ,lol...
