based on a second half of one game.

if they had played that way the first half against State, and bad the 2nd half but still won by a thread this line would be different imvho

blue, I've written a lot on it and I honestly feel Illinois is the right side. A few things:
1. On offense, ILL's passing and motion offense is well suited to wear and break down Carolina. Not gonna beat them off the dribble one-on-one all day long like MSU tried but they are prone to defensive laspses and don't see them playing 35 seconds of strong defense often. They will eventually leave man open and all Illini are capable of hitting. Will need to knock down open shots at least as well as they did vs. Lou. I think Head will have a lot of opps, likely being defended by McCants. Head hit his last 4 3-pt attempts on Saturday.
2. NC is prone to turnovers -- avgd 18/game reg season. Illinois will need to force many more than they did against Lou. They are very capable.
3. Illinois has every starter capable of putting up 20 and beating you. For NC here, I really think it's May or nobody. Illinois has allowed a 20-pt scorer in each tourney game...but NONE by guards. Expect two of the best defenders in the country -- Williams and Brown -- to lock down Felton and McCants pretty well. Always prefer to bet on a team with more legit options for the game. The talent vs. team thing is a myth. Marvin Williams may be a lottery pick (some day), but is he one of the best players on the floor? No.
4. "Home court" edge is real. Weber talked to team about defending their court. That's how Illinois is treating it, as they did in Rosemont, and they seemed quite comfy with their surroundings vs. Lou. Crowd will be much more favorable than it was against Lou. I'd say 70-75% Illini favorable. It's a factor.

Many more reasons as well. That said, either team is most certainly capable of willing. Best two team in the country are on the court. Let's see what happens.

I still have a large position on the Illini. The cheapest $L I took back on NC has been -1.30. I bought a lot of un156. I still feel the Illini are the better team, play much better team defense, and play a much more disciplined game than the Tar Heels. Team concepts work, especially against an undisciplined team. The styles remind me very much of the UNLV/Duke final. I will have a lean on the dog to win outright. Probably a large lean, and I will middle and lean on the under. Should be an outstanding game, I must find a prop or two to cheer for.

I too savor the opportunity if the Tarheels start slow. That has been their MO as of late. If not, I ride it out.

i'd love to see the illini up by 10 or 11 at the break. then a halftime line of 6 or 7. of course, knowing me i'd probably say to myself "how can the illini not cover the 6 or 7 over the next 20 minutes". i've been known to say those kind of things in the past.

I hear ya, blue. Surely the fact that I've held Illinois 15-1 for a dime for over 4 months would not be tainting my opinion here. Not a chance.

I the Illini were up 11 at the break with a 2nd half line of UNC -7, there is no way in hell I'd bet that. Illinois up 11, I wouldn't touch UNC at more than -4.5.

Sweet price but you earned it with the early purchase and speculation. Great job. Best I got was 4-1. But at worst I will kiss my sister on this one. Walk a big position into the first half and hope for good results. Takeback a tad more if a middle presents itself. They are my only future so I will stick with it. Last team I wanted against them was NC.
