Authorities say Canton High Head Football Coach Gary Kinne was shot at close range in the chest, by a man he has come across before. That's because the son of suspect Jeff Robertson played on the football team at one point, and the suspect got into an altercation with another member of the coaching staff last year. "He had been warned off of school property back in august because of his temper," says Canton Police Chief Mike Echols at a press conference.

The field house is a couple hundred yards away from the entrance of the school and then the building in front of it is the actual high school itself. This is where students were at the time of the shooting. But they still kept them on lock down because Coach Kinne apparently wasn't the only target. "We do know that he had certain people he was upset with. We can't give out at this time what their names were," says Chief Echols.

But 3 hours after Robertson fled came a big break in the search. "Then around 12:15 the suspect's pickup was located at Garden Valley Golf Course off Interstate 20," says City Manager Charles Fenner. Robertson was found face down in nearby woods. Police saying the suspect expressed he didn't want to be taken down alive. "He had lacerations about 2 inches long on his right arm, lacerations about 2 inches long on his left arm. He appeared to have a puncture wound or a cut in his upper thigh area," says Canton Police Sergeant Brad Allison. "We found him face down. [There was] no resistance whatsoever when I placed the cuffs on him," says Allison.

Robertson was treated for his self-inflicted wounds at the hospital. He was then taken to jail, where he'll be charged for attempted capital murder. Some describe the incident as a time bomb, waiting to happen. "It seems like he's been upset with the coaching system here for quite a while. He's a very high-tempered person. And wasn't happy with the way things were done," says Chief Echols.

Remember. Guns don't kill people.

At least that's what the nutjobs in the KKK/NRA/ICUP in the poli forum keep saying ...

as far as I know, "the gun" didn't have an issue with the coach. If you put a ban on guns, this nutjob still gets ahold of one and shoots the coach. This guy was banned from the school, maybe they needed a guard stationed at the entrance with "a gun" to stop him.

Always good to know Lander, that you use a tragedy to take a shot at the right. KKK?? That's right, if you're a black Republican, you don't count for nothin'.

I saw the headline on MSN yesterday "Texas Football Coach Shot". I bet several longhorn fans are disappointed it wasn't Mack Brown they were talking about. The headline grabbed me enough to check out the story.

Yep, every Thursday at 5pm. PST. is LEYKIS101 out here. I try and listen everyday, and of course pay particular attention to the Thursday evening show. Everyone can learn a lot from the Professor.
