Is Denver a real threat to the Western Conference? (20-2 red hot heading to Playoffs)

Everyone has made a fuss about the Bulls turnaround, and the season Phoenix
has had, what about the Nuggets since George Karl has taken over 20-2 the
past 22...

The seedings in the West are still wide open, top seed Phoenix could get stuck with red hot Denver in Rd one, or Denver could still climb as high as 6th and avoid Phoneix and San Antonio in the first Rd.

NBA note*

Boston Celtics (3rd in the East) would not qualify in the West at this time.

Keep in mind a portion of this run was without Kenyon Martin including a road loss to Phoenix. I give them a chance against either Pho or SA

It was Karl's Sonics that ran into Denver as a #8 seed back in Rd 1 in the 1992 NBA playoffs and lost in 5...this will make for an interesting storyline in a couple weeks.

I give them little hope. They won't be able to beat Phoenix running and gunning and San Antonio is just far to superior.

Only round 1 matchup in which they could progress is if they could get Seattle.

Phoenix and SA would be horribly overpriced in the series IMO. Denver is the only one way to play either matchup. Who says Duncan will even be 50% let alone 100%, and I think they matchup against PHO just fine

Denver will fold like a "bad broadway play" when it comes to crunch time...

However, Karl's job there shouldnt be unnoticed, he has helped them immensely, but old habits are hard to break, and this team is too undisciplined, and can go into prolonged shooting droughts......they will win a game or 2, but not the series...

I agree Seattle is there only shot to win a series, they wont beat SA, PHX or Dallas

bucsfan - what is the basis for your statement that denver "will fold?" they have 2 superstars on their team; i doubt they will fold. if anything, they will be beat by the better team.

They would be favored to beat Dallas at this point....

I realize SA &Pho would probably be a bit much to expect an outright series win.

Journey,

You really think they'd be favored over Dallas in a series? They don't even have homecourt, I think that's a bit overzealous to say they'd be favored with more road games than home.

But they sure do have a good shot at knocking out the Mavs(as a dog).

Correction, I don't think they would be favored by the oddsmakers but I would favor them...

Journeyman you're not serious are you!

Dallas is a legit contender for the NBA championship imo.

ZERO chance they would lose to the Nuggets 4 games of 7.

I can only assume you were joking...

Ok, point taken.

I wouldnt want to be Dallas with a history of playoff misery having to face this Nuggets team in the first round. Will probably be one of the best, if not the best series in the first round. I think bettors will definitely side with the Nuggets when the opening series price does come out. Also this will be Avery Johnson's first playoff series as a coach, unknown factor, have to give a big coaching edge to Karl.

We will see...

I have seen this team play some "really" poor games this year, they shoot when they should run some clock, they take outside shots when inside guy is open, etc.......Karl has fixed some of that, and they are much better, but when it comes to crunch time, i think they will show their weaknesses....

Its just my opinion...

Lets try to remember that this was a team favored to compete for the West. If I'm not mistaken they were anywhere from 12 to 15-1 to win it. All Karl has done is gotten them to play to their potential. I'll let all the Nugget naysayers lay -800 to -1000 on a first round series price I'll take the +.

Dicky,

Do you think Denver would be that big of a dog? I say no way Denver's opponent would be anywhere near -800 regardless of who it is. Tough to say who they'll play first round anyway, but it would be tough to bet against this Nugget team under Karl.

If they end this hot imo they would be favored over Seattle if they were to play.
