a friend of mine did. the car was being sold by a dealership in new jersey. he drove from md to n.j to get the car.

he made it about half way home and the car caught on fire. it burned up on the side of the road and he got his money back from the dealership the next day.

I would not even consider unless the savings was good enough to get me compensated for a trip to see the car and a mechanic's opinion as well as my own after checking it out via looking and driving, local and highway, stop and go. A road test if you will.

My friend just bought a 1997 Harley Fatboy motorcycle. The bike was flawless. The dude even delivered it from Boston Mass to Buffalo NY for free.

its quite simple,

email the seller & ask them if they will accept a bid 'On Condition' that the payment be witheld prior to an INSPECTION of an indipendent mechanic (preferably an actual dealer of the manufacturer).

Once your bid wins, ask the seller to send the car to the mechanic of your choosing, once the car gets the passing Grade, arrange for delivery & payment of goods.

There are comapanies that will go visit the seller and do a thorough inspection, complete with pictures, test drive etc. They can't put it on a lift but will photograph the undercarraige, engine bay as well as the interior, exterior of the car.

I had one done on a car I was looking at, cost me $299 but allowed me to make a decision not to buy the car so it was money well spent.

A lot can be hidden by photos.:smoker2:

They have live chats with specialists on eBay to help you about buying, get a vehicle report, can be inspected, etc. Also depends on what you are buying. Many dealerships sell on eBay now and vehicles will carry full manufacturer's warranty just like buying from dealership. Just have to do your homework. Recommend speaking with live chat person to get many answers on buying a vehicle on eBay.

My buddy bought a Volvo on e-bay for $15000, and it is nice. He hasn't had any problems with it, and he too got it on the east coast.

I'm looking at a 2001 Sebring lxi coupe for my little bro that just graduated...

I found one at the dealership near where I live but I think they have it extremely over priced at 12,900. 62k miles. loaded..leather, moonroof, chrome wheels

Well I went through the dealership so I got a warranty included and I was able to test drive it and look it over...

I wonder if I paid too much though I got them to accept 10,800 out the door for the above mentioned Sebring coupe LXi

My father is in the auto sale business. He goes once a week to auctions and buys cars, vans, or trucks. He cleans them up and makes some good money. He has gotten some really good bargains at the auctions in Indy.

Try and find the location of the vehicle before commiting your bid. You are simply taking a shot when bidding on a vehicle sight onseen. But, we do like to gamble..lol
