Not just that but if you watch the hits, they're like almost perfectly placed no matter what defense you have shifted on. For example, when he got that double in the Texas game yesterday. Texas was tired of him blooping singles so they shift the defense in closer. He cracks it over there head for a double. If you play the infield back, infield single is just about guaranteed. If you play the infield closer, he'll slap the ball. Dude is a wizard with the bat. Besides being the only player in sports with first name status on his jersey, when watching the game yesterday on FOXSW, whenever they showed his stats, it says ICHIRO, and no last name. That's the first time I've ever seen anything like that. LOL

I believe all the Mariners games are broadcast live in Japan, 17 hours ahead of PST.

Also forgot to mention about his defense. During the Texas/Seattle game someone hit a double that was bouncing around against the wall. Ichiro threw a cannonball to the cut off man that saved a runner on first from scoring. I still can't understand how a skinny guy like that has such a cannon for an arm. Not your typical body type when considering similiar arms like Guerrero and Andrew Jones.

great points pokerpills..

i cant remember another player as exciting as this guy... might have to go all the way back to just before my time and say clemente...

he is one of the main reasons i have the mlb package. watching him hit is an event. watching him field a single with a guy on second is even more fun.

I agree World. I'll flip through the channels and wait until he comes up to bat whenever I catch a Mariners game on TV. I don't think anyone has produced this much excitement for a base hit since Pete Rose.

I agree with all you guys are saying so don't twist this, but there is a problem with Ichiro.....his lack of walks.....he HAS to hit .365 to be a productive leadoff hitter....

if i were seattle GM i would go out and get a bonifide leadoff hitter that can steal bases.. bat ichiro 2nd

can you imagine if ichiro had a hole open because the first baseman has to hold someone on....

I agree that is definitely true. But I believe it is because of his mentality of wanting to please the fans. He mentioned in SI that his job as a baseball player is to give the fans a good show by getting a base hit.
