I've been self-employed since 2000. I worked and saved until I no longer had to go to the plantation.

I enjoy being self-employed, but it isn't for everyone. Being single w/o kids and in good health, helps reduce the natural risks of self-employment.

I'm a college scout and it's fun watching high school talent that I placed go to the next level.

I work in corporate finance and love it. Get paid to follow the legal gaming industry on a daily basis. Part of my job is working with the lobbyists that are pushing for your rights to gamble in new ways and in new states, which is an eye-opening task in itself.

When I did have a job I had to get up and go into it wasnt bad, I enjoyed what I did.

Now, well......gets a bit boring at times. But it is nice getting up when you want, and not having to be somewhere at a certain time.

other than that, it's like anything else, it gets old.

WB- How did you get into the field? I have a finance degree, but only a bachelor's. Do you have a master's, or even higher?

I teach, so nothing exciting there.

If you teach long enough, the monotony can be a blessing or a curse.

A curse because its the same sh!t every semester.

A blessing because you don't even have to think or work. You know everything by heart.

NO

Eventhough 85% of my work is done from the office in my apartment, I still don't like it... I am basically a babysitter. I guess my title would be district manager but that is really just glorifying it. I watch over 6 wireless communication stores, order products keep track of sales etc... when I call it babysitting, it really is.. all the ivdividual store managers are no older than 23

I am a beverage director at a hotel. The company I work for has a hotel on the beach in Maine for the summer and another on the beach in Florida. I spend my summers on the beach in Maine and winters on the beach in Florida. Not a bad life!

I have just a bachelors in accounting. It was a long process I lucked into I guess. Been a financial analyst most of my career and found a job a few years ago in a corporate finance role. Eventually the bosses put me where I am because my interest in the industry makes me well suited for it. Like most people that end up in good jobs, you just have to get into the industry you like and are willing to work at harder because you enjoy it. Most of the people in my company really don't care about gambling and don't have much interest in following the industry, they just do the job they are assigned. To get ahead you have to do more than just the job and if you like what you do, that sure makes it easier.

If you do that, chances are someone will notice and move you to a spot you enjoy as long as you are patient.

Self-employed, advertising. I have staff now, so don't have to work as much when I'm at the office. I do like the creative side of my job, but the everyday crap of running a business isn't my cup of tea. Still, it beats working for someone else.

I am in the sports information industry (as a programmer and multimedia production), and yes it does go hand in hand with gaming. Hoping to get more involved with making $$$ on my plays & plays on this board (and others) as the years go by
